Menard To Start 20th At Pocono

June 1, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion will have to start Sunday’s 400-miler at Pocono Raceway from the middle of the pack, but all indications are that they won’t be there long.

Menard was ninth fastest in Friday’s practice session with a best lap at 174.700 miles per hour.

He was a solid 16th in the first of three rounds of knock-out qualifying with a speed of 174.250 mph. But he slipped a bit in the second round, running his lap at 173.675 mph, which means he will start 20th on Sunday.

“The car was just a little too free going into Turn One in the second round,” Eddie Wood said. Continue reading Menard To Start 20th At Pocono

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 HITACHI TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET: “Solid first day here in Detroit. We’ve got some great pace and I feel confident we’ll be able to challenge for the Verizon P1 award tomorrow in qualifying. It’s a jam packed weekend with not a lot of time for adjustments so I’m very pleased the crew at Team Penske put together a car for me that was this comfortable out of the gate.”

MATHUES LEIST, NO. 4 ABC SUPPLY AJ FOYT RACING CHEVROLET: The day went ok I think. It is my first time here in Detroit, so the first couple laps in Practice 1, we just concentrated on learning the track and getting some laps in. It’s a pretty tricky track, very bumpy, probably the bumpiest track I’ve ever been to, but it is ok. We still have some work to do for tomorrow, we are struggling a little bit with the red tires; on the blacks we seem ok. Happy to be here, I think it’s a nice street course. Looking forward to both races this weekend.” Continue reading Chevy Racing-INDYCAR–Detroit Practice Quotes

YOU’VE HAD A GOOD COUPLE OF WEEK’S COMING OFF A TOP 10 FINISH AT CHARLOTTE. NOW WE ARE KIND OF MIDWAY THROUGH THE REGULAR SEASON, IT’S YOUR FIRST FULL SEASON WITH HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS, HOW WOULD YOU ASSESS WHERE YOU ARE AT PERSONALLY AND HOW DO YOU BALANCE THAT OUT WITH HOW THE TEAM IS IMPROVING GETTING THEIR ARMS AROUND THE NEW CHEVY CAMARO?
“Yeah, we have had some up’s and down’s. We have been quite a bit off of how we expect and want to be running. Last week was a hard fought ninth place finish but missed out on a lot of stage points. It’s better than a bad finish, but still a little frustrating. We are working really hard. We have a lot of really smart people trying to get all four of our cars better. But, it’s not secret we are off of where we want to be. It’s been a little frustrating, but we are not terrible in the points right now. It’s a dream come true to just be driving for Hendrick Motorsports. I really can’t complain too much.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Alex Bowman

FUNNY CAR WORLD CHAMPION ROBERT HIGHT FOCUSED ON A WIN IN CHICAGO
JOLIET, Ill. (May 31, 2018) — For many years Robert Hight used his hand eye coordination skills to demolish trapshooting targets. He was so proficient that Olympic aspirations were not out of the question but Hight traded in his shotgun for something with a little more kick over two decades ago. Now he trains his eyes on the flicker of yellow from the starting line Christmas Tree and has been demolishing track speed and elapsed time records behind the wheel of his Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car.

Now with two NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car world championships under his belt Hight has his sights set on a dominant start to four races in a row during the month of June starting with the JEGS Route 66 NHRA Nationals outside of Chicago. Menard Ready To Take On The Tricky Triangle

Menard Ready To Take On The Tricky Triangle

May 31, 2018

When Indianapolis 500 legend Rodger Ward designed Pocono Raceway, he patterned Turn One after the old Trenton Speedway in New Jersey, Turn Two after Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Turn Three after the Milwaukee Mile.

On the surface it would seem like Paul Menard, driver of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion would have an advantage at Pocono since he’s won two major NASCAR races on tracks the late Ward used in his planning for Pocono. Menard won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis in 2011 and an Xfinity Series race at the Milwaukee Mile in 2015.

But he said that Pocono’s turns, while similar to the legendary tracks they were based on, are themselves unique.

“It’s a cool concept,” Menard said of Ward’s use of legendary ovals in designing the 2.5-mile Tricky Triangle at Pocono. “But you don’t look at notes from Indy and Milwaukee. Continue reading Menard Ready To Take On The Tricky Triangle
