Menard Finishes 26th On Disappointing Day At Sonoma

Menard Finishes 26th On Disappointing Day At Sonoma

June 25, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Richmond team had a long, hard day on the road at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, finally coming away with a disappointing 26th-place finish.

Menard started the 110-lap race from the 15th position, and the team planned a strategy that had them stopping just prior to the end of the first two Stages. The pit strategy moves were intended to allow the Menards/Richmond team to gain track position once the drivers ahead of them made pit stops during the caution periods following the end of the Stages.

The strategy worked as Menard moved to 11th place for the start of the second 25-lap Stage. It was successful again after the second Stage, and he restarted ninth for the final segment of the race.

But that strategy didn’t work out as planned in a final segment that ran caution-free from Lap 55 until the end of the race. Continue reading Menard Finishes 26th On Disappointing Day At Sonoma

RCR Post Race Report – Sonoma 350

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Dow Camaro ZL1 Team Earn 16th-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

“The Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 had a solid run today, especially considering how far back we started. There’s a saying that our No. 3 Dow Racing team has been going by all weekend in Sonoma – ‘slow is smooth, smooth is fast.’ That’s really how we tried to run our race today. We took advantage of pit strategy by pitting just before the stage breaks and stretching Stage 3 to one stop instead of two. It’s all about race car management here, as the tires fall off pretty quickly. In the end we finished 16th, which is the best we’ve finished here by 1 spot. We’ll take it and keep moving on.”
-Austin Dillon

Ryan Newman and Grainger/American Red Cross Team Earn Stage Points Enroute to 24th-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

“The first two stages went exactly like we had planned. We wanted to run the stages out so that we could earn as many points as possible. Our Grainger/American Red Cross Camaro ZL1 was so much better than the Chevy we had the last time we were here so kudos to the entire RCR organization for giving us a competitive car. We finished the first two stages in the top 10 and going into the final stage, our car needed a little more help through the right turns but we were still capable of a top-10 or top-12 run. Unfortunately, we gambled on what we had hoped would have been a caution, but it did not pan out and it cost us considerable track position. We rallied back but just ran out of laps. We are making gains but we’re not quite able to translate them into the finishes. We’ll get there.”

-Ryan Newman

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, RACE WINNER:
HOW BAD DID YOU WANT THIS ONE JOSEF?
“Really bad. I have wanted to win here since last year. I felt like we had a car that could win then, and it just didn’t happen. This Chevrolet has been a rocket all weekend, but it was not easy. Ryan (Hunter-Reay) was quick and I knew (Scott) Dixon was right behind him, so we were working for it the entire race. These Team Penske guys were the best. They gave me incredible pit stops and I think we nailed the strategy. Tim (Cindric) was coaching me through the whole thing so I kind of knew what I had to do, but it was a lot of work I will be honest with you. Ryan was really pushing me. So just hats off to the whole Team Penske team, I wish we could have all those other guys up here with us, but it’s good to get a win. Doesn’t matter which car gets one, it’s just good to get a win for Team Penske.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Post Race Quotes

NORWALK, Ohio (June 23) — Riding a wave of three straight victories on the NHRA national tour, Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. remains red-hot in his native Buckeye State, scoring his first low qualifier of the year at this weekend’s rain-plagued race in Northwest Ohio.

Trying to run in between a seemingly endless string of showers, Coughlin and his Rickie Jones-led JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro crew only had one shot at the newly-paved drag strip, but they made the most of it, running a stout 6.612 at 208.46 mph to lead the factory hot
