“Wow, what a battle by my No. 2 Anderson’s Maple Syrup team today to claim our fifth-consecutive top-five finish at one of my most challenging tracks. Our car was ok in practice this morning, but we lacked what we normally have for speed and handling. Part of that is also Richmond Raceway just being such a challenge for me to drive. In a sense, we lucked out with qualifying being rained out and were able to start second thanks to our owner points position. Austin Dillon and RCR’s No. 3 Realtree Chevrolet Team Lead Laps, Show Speed at Texas Motor Speedway

“We had a strong Realtree Chevrolet this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. After qualifying in the top-five and showing speed in practice on Friday and Saturday, we were able to run in the top-five through much of Stage 1. The biggest issue throughout the race was keeping up with the balance of the car. We could hold our own in clean air, but we were too loose on our last run. We led laps in the final stage before pitting for fuel with 12 laps to go. These RCR and ECR Chevrolets have had speed all year, and we put up a good fight today.”

Late-Race Incident Hurts Daniel Hemric’s Day at
Texas Motor Speedway

“After our strong qualifying effort with the No. 8 Bulwark FR/Wayne Workwear Chevrolet, clearly this was not the result we had hoped for . The car was strong all weekend long and felt good in the pack. We were too free in traffic but Luke Lambert (crew chief) and the guys worked on the handling each time we came to pit road. I made slight contact with the wall off Turn 2 late in the final stage and that eventually caused the right rear tire to go down. The guys did all they could to clear the tire, but the rubber wrapped around everything under the car and we lost a lot of laps getting it fixed. We will keep our heads high and look to rebound next week at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“Another race weekend, another fast No. 2 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Chevrolet Camaro. My Richard Childress Racing team has been putting in the work both at the shop and at the track, and it shows with our results. We have a good string of top-five finishes going right now. Today, we just struggled a little bit finding a good balance that worked for both Turns 1 and 2 and turns 3 and 4 since they’re so different here at Texas Motor Speedway, but we really hit on something at the end of the race and the car came to life. If I could run the top line for restarts and then continue it during a run, the handling was much more consistent throughout a run. We’re so close to putting RCR in Victory Lane for the first time this year. We just need a little bit more. I’m excited to have qualified for Xfinity’s Dash 4 Cash event at Bristol Motor Speedway. DANIEL HEMRIC QUOTES:
You are now more than a month into your rookie season in the Cup Series, how would you assess your season so far and the pressures of racing full-time in NASCAR’s top division?
“It’s been a roller coaster, I think that’s a good way to look at it – but definitely more so emotionally. We had our situation at Daytona where we had a fast race car but did not get a good finish out of it. We went to Atlanta and were able to lead the race and had a top-five finish within reach when we had a right front tire come apart. This past weekend in Fontana, we had a fast No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 but made contact with the wall, cut the tire and took ourselves out of contention. That’s kind of been the trend all season. It’s been up and down, up and down. It has been a good learning experience trying to balance all of that, in addition to all of the other nuances that come with racing in the Cup Series and what makes this level what it is. It’s challenging, like everyone said it would be, but it has been fun trying to adapt and change on the fly. As a company, RCR has some good things to go off of, and it has been fun to lean on my teammate Austin Dillon through the process to make sure we’re doing everything we can to make ourselves better today than we were yesterday.”

The team has had some bad luck to start the year, but how encouraging is it to know the RCR Chevrolets have shown speed so far this season?
“The speed it there, and it is something I am very proud of. I’m extremely thankful to everyone back at the shop at RCR, ECR Engines and Chevrolet. There has been a lot of emphasis on getting us all of the tools and resources that we need to get the speed. We have all of that stuff in front of us, we just need to do a better job – on my end as well – of maximizing how much speed you need with the balance of the race car for the race. We’ve missed the balance a few times, but we hit on it well a couple of times as well. You don’t know what you don’t know until you figure it out. All of the teams in the garage are figuring more things out each time we hit the racetrack and we have learned a lot from the West Coast Swing that will help us moving forward. After Fontana we will be able to take what we learned, download it and legitimately see what we feel like are the key components to make us better.”

As a former short-track racer, Martinsville Speedway must feel like a home race. What are your thoughts heading into your first Cup Series start at the tight, paper-clip shaped track?
“It is pretty cool to go back short-track racing this weekend, plus to do it at Martinsville. I remember going to Martinsville as a kid to watch a lot of short track races, just being a fan. Outside of Charlotte Motor Speedway, I would consider Martinsville my home track. It is also a place I haven’t raced at since 2016 in the Truck Series. There has been a little bit of a drought there, so I am looking forward to getting there on Saturday and jumping all in. My crew chief Luke Lambert and all of the guys on this No. 8 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team all really enjoy Martinsville, so hopefully we can hit on the balance and have a good weekend. I’m just excited to go back short-track racing.”

ECR Cadillac Engines Wins Second-Consecutive IMSA Race of 2019 Season
Action Express Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DP1-V.R. Wins 12 Hours of Sebring

WELCOME, N.C. (March 18, 2019) – ECR Engines secured its second-consecutive win in the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar series with a win by Action Express Racing’s Whelen Engineering Cadillac at the 12 Hours of Sebring this past Saturday. ECR previously scored a 1-2 finish in the Rolex 24 Hour earlier this year.

Action Express Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac was piloted by Pipo Derani, Felipe Nasr, and Eric Curran. Together, the three drivers led 249 of the 348 laps at Sebring International Raceway after battling rain and poor visibility at the start of the event. The team also had to defend their lead for a final eight-minute sprint to the finish after the fifth caution period of the day came out late in the race.

“This has been a great start to the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar season for ECR Engines,” said Richie Gilmore, president of ECR Engines. “To follow up our 1-2 finish in the Rolex 24 Hour with another win at the 12 Hours of Sebring is a testament to all the work and effort our team has put in during the off-season. Whelen Engineering has been so close to victory at Sebring in the past, so it’s nice to see them finally get it done.”

The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac has previously finished second at Sebring in 2016 and 2018, and third in 2017. The team also finished second in the 2019 Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona International Speedway.

Austin Dillon and the Dow Chevrolet Team Earn Solid, Top-10 Finish at Auto Club Speedway

“We had a really fast Dow Chevrolet this weekend and we have shown speed all year. We earned the pole award and ran well within the top-five until the end of Stage 1. I could feel the right-rear tire going down and brushed the outside wall. The No. 3 team did a great job keeping me on the lead lap during multiple pit stops for repairs. The Dow Chevrolet remained fast. It was just an uphill battle to reclaim track position. Through hard work, we were able to finish 10th. I’m so proud of this team.”

Contact with the Outside Wall Hurts Daniel Hemric’s Top-10 Efforts in Fontana

“I hate it for everyone on this No. 8 Liberty National Life Insurance Chevrolet team. We had a strong run going and had worked from the 17th spot to racing inside the top 10 by the end of Stage 1. I was racing in heavy traffic once we went back green, and the air just sucked me up the track and I made contact with the outside wall exiting Turn 4. That damage cut the right rear tire and we had to pit under green to repair the damage. Unfortunately, we had another flat right rear, which caused even more damage. Nobody on this team gave up and I am proud of them for doing all they could to repair the damage. The car still had speed, but without the help of many cautions, we never really had the chance to get those laps back and then we had a flat left front in the closing laps, which hurt us even more.”

Tyler Reddick Overcomes Mid-Race Flat Tire to Collect Third Top-Five Finish This Year

“We had another really solid No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet Camaro this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. My team worked so hard on this Camaro, from putting in the work back at the shop to fixing it up after I scraped the wall in practice. I’m really proud of us for completing the weekend sweep for RCR with pole awards in both series. That was a nice ‘thank you’ that I could give them for the effort they’ve put in these past couple of weeks. We had to fight for our third top-five finish of the year today. I started off a little too loose but built tight eventually as the race went on. We had a flat right rear tire midway through the final stage after I brushed the wall, causing us to pit off sequence and go a lap down. We got lucky when a caution came out soon after, which allowed us to take the wave around and get our lap back. We had a great car and were able to get back into the top five, but I hate that we weren’t able to really get back up to the front and fight for the win. This one should have been ours. We were so close. I’m looking forward to Texas and getting back at it still as the points leader.”

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Dow Chevrolet Top-Five Run Foiled By Fuel Mileage

“Man, we had a great No. 3 Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 today at ISM Raceway. I hate that it ended with us running out of fuel with under 10 laps to go. Danny Stockman (Crew Chief) and the team did a great job focusing on setting us up throughout the weekend to have good balance during the race. I would occasionally build tight into Turn 3 and while rolling through the corner, but nothing I couldn’t handle. We did struggle a little bit during the race when we would get pushed back in traffic and getting a speeding penalty didn’t help. Danny made a good call during the final stage to take fuel only to put us back up front but that cut us just a couple laps shy of making it. I was doing everything I could to save through the remaining cautions and lift as much as I could once we got spread out. It was just a little short this time around. We know we have the speed to contend up front though, so we’ll keep working and get back up there soon.”

Daniel Hemric Finishes 18th in Okuma Chevrolet After Leading Laps at ISM Raceway

“We battled all day with this No. 8 Okuma Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. We took off too loose to start the race, but Luke Lambert and all of the guys on this team kept working on it and got it to where it was fairly connected. I could make a little hay later in the runs, but about the middle point of the run the handling issues started to show up again. We used some pit strategy to stay out and were able to lead some laps, which is always nice. I’m proud of everyone on this team for never giving up and fighting all weekend long to work on this Okuma Chevy. We learned a lot this weekend and look to apply that next week in Fontana to close out this West Coast swing.”

Tyler Reddick Finishes Third in No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet at ISM Raceway and Takes Over Lead in Series Standings

“ISM Raceway has always been a tricky place for me, but I think we made some positive gains here today. RCR brought another solid No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet Camaro to the track, which helped me figure out a couple more things about this track. The balance of our Camaro was great all race long, just building tight a little bit throughout the length of a run. We tried to off-set that by firing off a little looser than we normally would, knowing that the track was building tight. We luckily avoided getting caught up in the wreck that took out the 20 and 7, but we just couldn’t get enough at the end of the race to really challenge Kyle Busch. I’ve got more to continue to learn here at Phoenix, but I feel good about where we’ll be when we come back in the fall. In the meantime though, I’m really looking forward to next week at California and proud we are heading there as the points leader. It’s a track I love and think we’ll have a good shot at the win.”

Austin Dillon and the Dow Silastic Silicone Elastomers Team Show Speed at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

“We had a really fast Dow Silastic Silicone Elastomers Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 throughout the weekend. We raced as high as second in Stage 1 even though we were battling a loose-handling chassis and lacked grip. During the first round of pit stops, we were penalized for having an extra man over the wall when one of the crew guys slipped and had a hand touch pit road. The penalty put us one lap down and altered our race strategy slightly, but we were able to take the wave around at the Stage 1 break and get back on the lead lap. After pitting under green in Stage 2, we were posting the fastest laps of everyone and went to work on regaining track position. We stayed out a little longer than everyone else during green-flag pit stops in Stage 3 and ended up leading a few laps. Unfortunately, the car’s handling became much too tight in the final Stage. I think we had a top-10 car, just never got the track position we needed. We ended up 20th and definitely learned a lot about this new package.”

Daniel Hemric and the No. 8 Caterpillar Team Take Notes and Learn a Lot with New Package at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

“We just missed it a little bit today with our No. 8. Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, with this new package. I couldn’t go through the corners like I needed to at the start of the race, which set us back and caused us to fall down a lap. Luke Lambert and the team didn’t give up though and we kept fighting and working on our Camaro. It started to come back to me towards the end of the race, and I was able to carry gas into the corners better than I could at the start of the day. We just ran out of time to really make anything up. I’m confident in this team’s ability to bounce back from this. We know what we need to work on and will regroup to get back after it at ISM Raceway.”

Tyler Reddick Picks Up Stage Win, Leads Laps in No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet Before Getting Caught Up in Late-Race Wreck

“I hate that this is the way our day ended. We had an excellent No. 2 Hurdl Chevrolet Camaro. I really had no complaints about the balance other than it being just a tad snug at times. Once we got into clean air out front, it was fast and we were able to stretch the lead out. I’m glad we were able to pick up our first stage win of the year and lead a lot of laps today. We’re continuing to improve each week in that area. Unfortunately on that last restart, the 18 of Kyle Busch just got me right where he wanted me and was able to take the air off me. That got me way too loose, and I wasn’t able to save it. I hate it for my team and everyone else who was involved, but we were racing for the win. If we keep bringing Chevrolet Camaros as good as this one, we’ll have another shot soon. I’m having a blast driving these cars and can’t wait for next week at ISM Raceway.”

Austin Dillon and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Team Gain Valuable Experience En Route to 21st-Place Finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway

“It was definitely a learning experience for our Dow Racing team today at Atlanta Motor Speedway. We missed on the setup a little at the beginning of the race and that made our bed for the rest of the race. This team has a lot of determination, though, and we never gave up. My crew chief, Danny Stockman, and the team made major adjustments throughout the race to try and get the handling better. By the end of the race, we were running the No. 42 car down, who had led a lot of the race, and that’s a testament to how hard this team works and all of the changes we made during the race. Unfortunately, by that point we were too far behind to really make up what we lost at the beginning of the race. We’re building a notebook for this new package, and I have confidence that our team will be in the fight next week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.”

Daniel Hemric’s Top-Five Run in Red Kap/Alsco Chevrolet Ruined by Flat Right Front Tire Late at Atlanta Motor Speedway

“It was a crazy, crazy day. It is definitely heart breaking not to get a top-five finish for these guys that work on this No. 8 Red Kap/Alsco Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. We put ourselves in position to have a solid day, even though I made some mistakes on pit road – way too many mistakes than you can afford to make at this level and that is something I will work to clean up on my end. Luke Lambert and everyone on this team still gave me a shot to run inside the top five late in the race, but a flat right front tire in the closing laps ruined what was shaping up as a strong day. The good thing is that this serves as some motivation for everyone at RCR and on this No. 8 team. Those are the kinds of race cars we need to bring to the racetrack every week to give ourselves a shot. It was fun to drive and fun to pass people, and I am looking forward to get to Las Vegas next week.”

Tyler Reddick Leads Laps, Comes Home Fifth in Pinnacle Financial Partners Camaro at Atlanta Motor Speedway

“This No. 2 Pinnacle Financial Partners Camaro was so fast and handled really well today. We were able to hug the bottom groove like I wanted and that’s where I was able to make a lot of speed and passes from. As time went on, I needed a little more rear security in our Camaro, but overall it handled really well. We have the speed, which is the important part for us to build on. We got shuffled back a little on that final restart, which I think if that yellow hadn’t come out Christopher Bell and I would have put on a really good finish for the fans. The good news is it’s only February and they hand out the big trophy in November. If we keep bringing Camaros like this, we’ll be in a good spot.”
