Austin Dillon Avoids Melee at Daytona International Speedway to Finish Seventh

“Andy (Houston, spotter) worked really hard there at the end of the race to gain us track position. We made up four or five spots in a lap and put ourselves in the top 10 for the final restart of the night. We got to the outside lane and had a heck of a run coming to the white flag. I just couldn’t get back to the bumper of our drafting partner before the checkered flag came out. All-in-all it was a good night for the Bass Pro Shops/NRA Museum team. It was a good night for us in the standings, too. Man, it feels much better to finish seventh on all four tires. I’m proud of this Richard Childress Racing team. I wanted to win tonight, but I know we have one coming.”

Promising Night Ends Early for the No. 27 Duracell/Menards Chevrolet Team at Daytona International Speedway

“It was hard to see. I saw the No. 1 car get squirrelly a couple hundred yards down the tri-oval. I’m not sure if Jamie (McMurray) had a problem, he said there may have been a tire issue but wasn’t really sure. Typical plate racing. We had a fast Duracell/Menards Chevy tonight and could’ve contended for the win. We got up to second and took a stab at the lead. We were just waiting for that next pit stop to work on the car a little after that last run. These guys built a great Chevy SS for the weekend. It’s just unfortunate that our night ended the way it did.”

Ryan Newman Rebounds From The “Big One” to Finish 18th at Daytona International Speedway

“We chose the wrong line there after the final restart. For as banged up as our Florida Lottery Chevrolet was, it was still fast. I want to commend my team for working their tails off when we got caught up in the “Big One”. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) had a good plan in place to make the necessary repairs. It cost us a lap but fortunately we were able to benefit from the lucky dog and got back on the lead lap. On that final restart in overtime, we just raced in the line that wouldn’t go when we needed it to.”

Austin Dillon Leads Laps before Collection in an Early Incident Forces him to a 28th-Place Finish

“This Rheem Camaro team never gives up. We got caught up in the incident in the beginning of the race. I told myself on the restart I needed to get down to the bottom lane. I guess I just didn’t get there fast enough. It’s a product of guys racing too hard too early. We only had six or seven laps until the competition caution. We got back to the garage and every Rheem crew member had a hand in getting this car back on track. We weren’t going to get a DNF. You’ll have these nights. It’s racing. We had a fast car, led laps and almost had us another pole award.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Subway Firecracker 250

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Dow Racing Team Earn 22nd-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

“It’s not the finish we wanted, but I’m proud of my Dow Polyurethane and Utility Trailer guys. They never gave up. Passing was pretty difficult today so restarts were important. On the second to last restart, I went off course a little and lost quite a few positions. The guys said to go for it, so that’s what I was trying to do. I hate that I lost a few positions on that restart because we were never able to make up the positions before the end of the race. It’s ok because we’re in this together and we’ll be back stronger for the next road course race at Watkins Glen International in a few weeks.”

First road course race of 2015 ends with the No. 27 Richmond/Menards Chevrolet Team in 16th place

“We were optimistic heading into today’s race in Sonoma. The guys worked hard all weekend and we made some gains on this Richmond/Menards Chevy. It really showed on Saturday when we went out and qualified ninth. Today’s race didn’t go quite as planned. We had a strategy in place, but that second caution came out and threw us off. The car was handling well, but could’ve handled better in Turn 10 and the low-speed corners. We fought that all day. Overall it’s been a good weekend. I have to thank my guys for all their work.”

Ryan Newman Cruises to Eighth-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway in the WIX Filters Chevrolet

“We started the race off a little loose in the left-hand turns and a little tight in the right-hand turns but my crew chief Luke Lambert and the WIX Filters team fixed me up during the first and second pit stops of the day. We made contact with the soft wall outside Turn 4 towards the end of the race but didn’t really sustain any damage. I think those last couple of caution flags helped cool our tires down and we were able to pick up an extra few spots before the end of the race. Overall it was a good day for the WIX Filters Chevrolet team.”

Strong Showing for Ben Kennedy at Iowa Speedway in his NASCAR XFINITY Series Debut

“Man, this was a blast. I had so much fun. We had a fast Ruud Chevrolet. My goal at the beginning of the weekend was to finish in the top 10 and we achieved that. We were just a little too tight there at the end. I learned a ton on those restarts, what to expect throughout the run and how the lines change during the race. We could really utilize that top line as the run went on. I think we were one of the first teams to make that work. Overall, it was a great learning experience and I’m happy to go home with a top 10 finish. I can’t thank everyone at Richard Childress Racing and Ruud enough for this opportunity. It’s been a great weekend.”

Austin Dillon’s Strong Weekend Capped Off with Top-10 Finish for the No. 3 Dow Veterans Salutes Team at Michigan International Speedway

“We thought we had enough speed to have a shot to win today in the Dow Veterans Salutes Chevrolet so we are a little disappointed even though a top-10 is a great day. Obviously, we didn’t have everything we needed today, but our main issue is that we never really got the track position we needed. I thought our first restart was good and we were running solidly in the top five, but the caution came out after we pitted and we did not get in front of race leader Jimmie Johnson before the caution came out, so that hurt us. But, I’m proud of my guys. They made some good adjustments on pit road to get us back in the game. We had a good last restart and a key factor in that was restarting on top. That top line really moved today. I don’t know what people thought of the new lower downforce package that we debuted today, but in my opinion it was pretty hard to pass because it made our cars really free. Everybody has wanted to go in that direction, but there is only so far that we can go. We are not all Superman out there, so downforce is king.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Michigan

Paul Menard Battles for the Win in the Menards 250 Presented by Valvoline at Michigan International Speedway

“We were so close. We had a fast Richmond/Menards Chevrolet today. The handling was just a little bit off which made the car too loose in the opening laps. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys made good changes on pit road. We adjusted a little too far so had to dial it back after the car got too tight. We were right there all day and overall I was happy with our Chevy. It’s always fun to race with this team and I’m looking forward to my next race with them in Indy.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Menards 250

Paul Menard and the No. 2 Richmond / Menards Chevrolet Team Earn Seventh-Place Finish in Inaugural NASCAR XFINITY Series Race at Pocono Raceway

“We had a fast Richmond/Menards Chevrolet this weekend. We unloaded fast on Thursday and felt pretty good heading into qualifying. I messed up a little in Turn 1 during qualifying, but we definitely had a top-three car. During the initial part of the race, we fired off a little loose and possibly on the splitter. The handling got better as we ran more laps and I was able to work through the field. I hate that rain cut us short because I know we had a car worthy of the top five, if not top three. I’m looking forward to Michigan next week with these guys.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Pocono Green 250

Austin Dillon Capitalizes on Long Green-Flag Runs to Finish 12th in Coca-Cola 600

“We fired off a little tight, but Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) made some good adjustments during the competition caution. I think around the halfway point, my balance got neutral and we picked up a few spots. Once the track temperatures cooled down, we really searched the track for the best lane. I found some good speed along the white line on the bottom of the track at the end of the race. The Cheerios team battled hard after starting back in the field, I’m proud of them. They did a good job tonight.”

Paul Menard Finishes 17th at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the No. 27 Knauf / Menards Chevrolet SS

“It’s always good to be in Charlotte for two weeks. We learned a little bit last week during the Showdown and carried that into this week’s practice sessions. We found speed before qualifying and got a decent starting spot for the race. This is the longest race of year, but it’s not something we notice from the driver’s seat. The biggest thing before a late race is just staying focused and relaxed during the day leading up to the start. Luckily the weather held off for us and we were able to get on track. Our Knauf/Menards Chevy definitely changed a lot throughout the day. We were too loose and too tight, just an overall lack of grip it seemed like. Justin (Alexander, crew chief) and the guys made good changes during pit stops, but we just weren’t good on the long run. I have to say it was an honor to have SPC Shannon’s name on the car and his family in the pits tonight. It’s a reminder for what Memorial Day is really about.”

Ryan Newman Overcomes Pit Road Speeding Penalty to Record Fourth Top-10 Finish in Coca-Cola 600

“We had a solid Chevy SS for most of the day today. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and this No. 31 team threw a ton at this car throughout the race, but we just couldn’t seem to find that perfect balance to drive to the front. I messed up and sped on pit road and it sent us back, although I don’t know that it cost us a whole lot. I’m just proud of everybody on this Whelen Chevrolet team. We ended up with a top-10 finish and we’re continuing to work our way up in points. We will look forward to Pocono.”

Austin Dillon Powers Through Hardship at Charlotte Motor Speedway to Finish Second

“We were definitely a fourth- or fifth-place car today. We fired off tight and had decent track position, but after the second caution we had to start pretty deep in the field. I’m not sure what happen there. That forced Danny (Stockman, crew chief) to call for two tires on the next few stops so we could gain our spots back. I think if we would have had a little extra luck on our side on the final restart, we could have won. Overall, it was a good day for this Rheem team. We have a few things to figure out, but we’ll get there.”

Ty Dillon Scores Seventh Top-10 Finish of the Season with Eighth-Place Result

“The Bass Pro Shops Chevy started the race a little off; we were super tight for whatever reason, so we weren’t able to make the moves we needed to start off. Luckily, we had a string of cautions in a row to give us a few opportunities to fix the car. Nick (Harrison, crew chief) took a big swing at the adjustments and they worked out well for us. I was able to race inside the top 10 for a majority of the day. Our car was fast, but I felt like we could have been a little better. The racing at the end for the checkered flag in overtime was fun. We’ll take this finish and move on to Pocono next weekend, a racetrack I’m really looking forward to visiting in the XFINITY Series.”

Brandon Jones Overcomes Adversity to Earn Fifth Top-10 Finish of the 2016 Season

“That was a crazy, crazy race right there. I was having problems every time I came into the pit stall. The car felt like it was going to die and I could watch the RPMs fall from the fuel getting out of the catch there. It was a long race. Pretty hot out all day, really slick and greasy. We were just fighting tight conditions all day, and crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. made great calls. We made some pretty big swings at it and got it where we needed to be there at the end to try and make a run at this. All-in-all, I think a seventh-place finish with all that happened with the pit stops there was good. I can’t thank this Menards / Barrett-Jackson team enough for a fast car. I can’t wait to get back here for the Chase.”

Gaughan Perseveres Through Pit Road Miscues and Finishes 10th

“It was just an up-and-down day. We got a bad set of tires on the second pit stop. It just happens sometimes, you get a set that doesn’t cure right. It makes for an interesting day. We had a couple of miscues on pit road today, but my guys kept fighting. It was an exciting day. It was slick and we were sliding around which is fun. In the end to battle back to a top-10 finish, we’ll take it.”

Whelen to Partner with Richard Childress Racing and Driver Ryan Newman for Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway

WELCOME, N.C. (May 23, 2016) – Richard Childress Racing announced today that Whelen Engineering Co., the “Official Warning Lights of NASCAR”, will serve as the primary sponsor on Ryan Newman’s No. 31 Chevrolet SS for the 57th running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 29, 2016.

“Whelen Engineering, the Official Warning Lights of NASCAR, is pleased to be the primary sponsor of the Whelen No. 31 Chevrolet for the Coca-Cola 600,” said Phil Kurze, vice president of motorsports. “Ryan (Newman) is a familiar name to us since he has been in Victory Lane a number of times in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway. It is fitting to have a graduate engineer driving a race car sponsored by an engineering company. The familiar red and white Sam Bass paint scheme will be displayed on the car and we look forward to the excitement of the longest race on the Sprint Cup schedule.” Continue reading Whelen to Partner with Richard Childress Racing and Driver Ryan Newman for Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Richard Childress Racing–Sprint All-Star Race

Ryan Newman and the Caterpillar/Grainger Chevrolet Team Finish 13th in Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway

“I hope in the spirit of the All-Star event, the fans enjoyed the race tonight. I’ve had the privilege of winning one of these Sprint All-Star races and it was a lot of fun. This format, not so much, unfortunately. Somehow we ended up a lap down after the first segment and that pretty much sealed our fate. I hate it for this Caterpillar/Grainger team, but we’ll take some positives away from all this especially with how our car responded today in practice and the race when we made adjustments. I love the Coca-Cola 600. It’s one of those races I really want to win and I hope next week we can get the job done.”

Richard Childress Racing–Sprint Showdown

Austin Dillon Strong in Early Segments of Sprint Showdown But Slowed by Right Front Tire Issue

“We started off strong today in the Dow Chevrolet but we were definitely challenged with handling issues. It was fun to race for the lead in the first segment and lead laps in the second segment but we were too loose to stay up front. These Sprint Showdown segments are so short it doesn’t give teams a lot of time to adjust on handling issues. Still, it’s fun racing and it reminds me of my dirt track roots. You just get in the car and go. Unfortunately, we had a right-front tire going down and that’s what really derailed our day. I’m excited for the Coca-Cola 600 next weekend.”
– Austin Dillon

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Knauf/Menards Chevy Team Take Advantage of Sprint Showdown to Prepare for Next Week’s Coca-Cola 600

“We knew today’s Showdown would be interesting without having any practice time on track prior to the race. We paid attention to how the cars handled during the All-Star Race practice session this morning, which gave us a little insight into how our cars would handle for the race. Being that it’s such a short race, there isn’t much time to be patient, so you’ve just got to go for it but remain aware at the same time. Our Knauf/Menards Chevy went back and forth from being tight- to loose-handling. Our biggest issue was lack of grip, something we will think about and make note of for the Coke 600. We’ll make the best of this race and use our notes to prepare for next week.”

Mid-Race Part Failure Slows Austin Dillon’s Day at
Dover International Speedway

“What a race. This AAA team never gave up today. We were running in the top 15 when something let go in the right front of the car and sent me into the wall. I was having to pump the brakes there the last couple of restarts to get some pressure. I think that was the issue when we got into the wall. It’s just a bummer. I feel bad for this AAA team who have worked hard all weekend. We had a solid car, just a part failure. It’s part of racing and we’ll be back next week. We were able to get back out there and make up some points. I have to thank the AAA tow truck for the extra push to get me restarted on one of the last cautions. They’re always there to get you back out on the road fast.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–AAA400

Strong, Top-Five Run Derailed at Dover International Speedway for the No. 2 Richmond/Menards Team

“I have to thank my guys for their hard work this weekend in Dover. We had to roll out the backup car after an issue during practice on Friday, and they worked nonstop to get the car ready for final practice. For a backup car, we had a lot of speed during qualifying, and I knew we’d have a shot at a top-five finish. The car was loose, but manageable during the first half of the race and the guys made a track bar adjustment that set us up well for the remaining laps. Not long after pit stops, I felt something break in the right front and had to come down pit road so the guys could determine what happened. Once we got back on track, I think we were nine laps down without many laps left, so we just survived to the end. I know Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys will go back and try to figure out what happened. I’m looking forward to my next race with this Richmond/Menards team in Pocono.”

Nos. 3 & 31 paint schemes to resemble Ricky Rudd’s 1983 victory at Riverside International Raceway

WELCOME, N.C. (May 11, 2016) – In celebration of Darlington Raceway’s “The Tradition Continues” throwback race weekend, Richard Childress Racing unveiled paint schemes today for its Nos. 3 and 31 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams, to be raced in the Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Sunday, September 4.

Both paint schemes will pay tribute to RCR’s first win as an organization, which came on June 5, 1983 at Riverside International Raceway. The cars will feature designs and stylized numbers resembling the No. 3 Piedmont Airlines Chevrolet that Ricky Rudd drove to Victory Lane at the now-defunct race track. Race Adjustments Help Austin Dillon and the American Ethanol Team Earn Sixth Top-10 Finish of 2016

“I had a fun night tonight. The American Ethanol Chevrolet was pretty fast. We just had to keep steadily working our way through there and thankfully it worked out well for us. I think we found some stuff on our adjustments as the race went on. We just kept getting better and better. It was challenging to pass tonight. For a while we were three-wide in the middle of the pack. It was hard to clear people. You could get close but you couldn’t clear. It was a good night for us and and I know we will have a win before too long.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–GoBowling400.com

Team Work Helps Austin Dillon Earn Career-Best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Finish in Dow Energy and Water Intellifresh Russell Chevrolet

“I had a really good run. My car was actually dragging enough from damage from an earlier wreck that the No. 1 could stick to my bumper and he gave me a heck of a push all the way through turns three and four. When he did that, I knew that we were going to have a shot at the win but as soon as I pulled out my car kind of became a parachute. I knew I had to take a shot at it though. I wanted to have a shot to win. Hats off to these guys. They fought so hard today. We made 15 pit stops. That’s amazing. The car was killed and to come home with a top-three finish is just amazing. This Dow Energy and Water Intellifresh team never panicked today. We’ve panicked a lot this year in certain situations and today was smooth and calm. They handled every situation they were put through. It was team work.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Talladega 500
