DENVER (July 23) — What could have been a marque first-round elimination race between five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. and four-time titlist Greg Anderson instead ended in disappointment Sunday morning when Coughlin’s JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro fizzled in the mile-high climes of Bandimere Speedway.

Just after dropping the clutch on his high-horsepower machine, Coughlin’s rear tires began to violently shake, forcing him to abort his run just a few hundred feet down the track. Anderson had no issues and cruised to a winning 6.979 at 197.31 mph. Coughlin eventually drifted through the timers in 10.316 seconds at 116.95 mph. DENVER (July 22) — Five-time Pro Stock world champion has traversed Bandimere Speedway numerous times in his two decades behind the wheel of his JEGS-branded racecars so he knows the famous mile-high strip well. However, after only qualifying 11th at this weekend’s 38th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, Coughlin says he’s yet to find the quickest way down the quarter mile this time through.

laser-focused on NHRA’s Western Swing
DENVER (July 17) — With just five races remaining until the Countdown to the Championship playoffs, five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. says the upcoming Western Swing of consecutive races in Denver, Sonoma and Seattle could prove to be pivotal for the true championship contenders in the NHRA’s factory hot rod class.

Beginning with this weekend’s 38th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at picturesque Bandimere Speedway, Coughlin says zeroing in on a consistently fast setup is top priority for the JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro race team. Jeg Coughlin Jr. hopes busy weekend in Chicago concludes with breakthrough victory

Jeg Coughlin Jr. hopes busy weekend in
Chicago concludes with breakthrough victory
CHICAGO (July 5) – Jeg Coughlin Jr. has 58 NHRA national event wins but not one of his Wally trophies has this year attached to faceplate. The five-time Pro Stock world champion looks to change that fact this weekend as the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series hits the quarter-mile for the 20th annual Fallen Patriots NHRA Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, just a few miles southwest of the Chicago city limits.

Coughlin will be a very busy man this weekend both as a competitor and as a spectator, but the fan-favorite racer and businessman is accustomed to having a hectic schedule.

“It’s a fun and big weekend for us on a lot of levels,” said Coughlin, a 47-year-old resident of Delaware, Ohio. “On the Pro Stock level, we’ve kind of licked our wounds from the last couple of weeks so we want to rebound well and see if we can’t go some rounds on Sunday again. I’ve got all the faith in the world in Mark Ingersoll and Rick and Ricky Jones (crew chiefs).”

After two runner-up finishes earlier this year, Coughlin has mustered only quarterfinal showings in the past two events, but a change in how the rubber meets the “Mother Road” may provide a better grip going forward. Two-time Division 3 champ Mike Coughlin
represents his home state well in Top Dragster
NORWALK, Ohio (June 25) — Although he didn’t match his winning effort from 2014 at this track, Top Dragster driver Mike Coughlin represented his decorated racing family well Sunday by reaching the third of five rounds in his competitive eliminator class.

Coughlin, the 2007 and 2009 D3 Top Sportsman champ, was anxious to add a Top Dragster trophy from Norwalk to the Top Sportsman one he captured here three years ago, but he ultimately fell a little short. Nevertheless, he was pleased with the performance of his JEGS.com dragster and the work put in by his crew. Jr. had hoped at his home track
NORWALK, Ohio (June 25) — Local hero Jeg Coughlin Jr. bowed out of the Pro Stock action a little earlier than expected Sunday, giving away a quarterfinal contest to part-timer John Gaydosh when his JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro shook its rear tires so hard just off the starting line that Coughlin had to give up the run.

In the end, it was Gaydosh winning with a 6.695 at 207.18 mph, a considerably slower elapsed time than Coughlin had posted in a first-round victory over Alex Laughlin when he went 6.676 at 209.26 mph. Continue reading Day ends sooner than Jeg Coughlin Jr. had hoped at his home track

NORWALK, Ohio (June 25) — Two-time Pro Mod world champion Troy Coughlin gained more ground on the J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series points lead Sunday by racing to his third final of the last three weeks before settling for runner-up honors to Shane Molinari.

It was almost a perfect weekend for Coughlin, who set the national speed record at 259.31 mph during a 5.756-second pass in qualifying No. 1 for the third time this year, before powering through a talented field to get to the trophy round. He’s now finished second-first-second in the last three national events to jump from fifth to second in the rankings. Coughlin now trails Mike Castellana by just 82 markers. He then scored a big first-round victory over Danny Rowe to further his chase of a third world championship in the popular category.

NORWALK, Ohio (June 24) — With six world championships and 76 victories, Jeg Coughlin Jr. wants for nothing in his drag racing career, but the 47-year-old from Delaware, Ohio, admits a victory Sunday at Norwalk — one of only two racetracks on tour where he has yet to win a national event– would be a sweet addition to his resume.

The two-time Division 3 champ will be looking for drag racing “seconds” this weekend in Norwalk, hoping for both his second win at the facility and his second national event victory of 2017. BRISTOL, Tenn. (June 18) — Two-time world champion Troy Coughlin won the 17th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Sunday to continue his rapid ascension up the championship points standings in the J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.

Just a little over a week ago, the 2012 and 2015 titlist was a distance fifth in the rankings, 234 points behind early-season class dominator Mike Castellana, but a runner-up finish last weekend in Englishtown, N.J., and Sunday’s win at Bristol Dragway, coupled with a rough couple of races by Castellana and others ahead of him in the points, have helped Coughlin rise to second place, 105 out of the lead. Tire shake thwarts Jeg Coughlin Jr.’s bid
to convert No. 1 starting spot into win
BRISTOL, Tenn. (June 18) — Jeg Coughlin Jr.’s hopes of converting his 23rd career No. 1 qualifying effort into a victory was foiled in the quarterfinal round when his JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro was plagued by severe tire shake in his race against part-time teammate Alex Laughlin Sunday at Bristol Dragway.

Coughlin had a marginal jump on Laughlin at the starting line but barely made it a foot before his huge rear Goodyear slicks started to square up. He really had no choice but to abort the run to avoid any catastrophe, as Laughlin sped away for an easy 6.769-second, 204.54-mph win.
