Three Teams Qualify at the Summit Racing Motorama

Joliet, IL – Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge seventh event of the 2017 Season took place at the Summit Racing Motorama in Hampton, GA this past weekend. Twenty teams came out to the Summit Racing Motorama to either qualify for the Dual National Championship held at the SEMA and PRI Show later this year or to improve their playoff time.

First Jr Engine Challenge Kicks Off at the Gateway Motorsports Park

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge started this past weekend with the first official event held at Gateway Motorsport Park in Madison, IL. The contest is very simple a team comprised of 2 individuals; one team member must be 5-18 years of age must completely disassemble/reassemble a complete single cylinder OHV engine, utilizing only basic hand tools. Some of the goals of the premise behind this contest are to help individuals develop great communication skills, self-esteem; develop problem solving skills, and an understanding of an internal combustion engine. Double Header Events has 13 Teams Qualify for Dual Championship!

Joliet, IL – The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) Engine Challenge had an event double header this past weekend. Starting off in Tennessee at the Coker Tire Chattanooga Cruise-in, HROT had twelve high schools participate with twenty teams, ten of which qualified for the Dual National Championship! The top three teams were: Team K&N from Burton Center Arts & Tech out of Salem VA. With a time of 19:31. Both second and third place teams came from Forsyth Central High School out of Cumming GA. Team QA1 was second with a time of 20:04 and Team Derale came in Third with 23:31.

HROT had four high schools with eight teams participating. Three of the teams qualified for and will compete at the Dual National Championship held later on this year.

Team Edelbrock, Katella high school NOCROP from Anaheim, CA came in first marking a 21:43 time. Second was Team SCAT from Loara high school ROP also from Anaheim, CA with a time of 23:59 and in third place was Team Mr. Gasket, Valley high school out of Santa Ana, CA with the time of 30:18.

At the Dual National Championship, every student that participates will be awarded a minimum of $5,000.00 in college scholarships from five different colleges.

This coming weekend HROT is excited to be holding for the first time a qualifying event at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, NC.

4 Teams Qualify at the Summit Piston Powered AutoRama

Joliet, IL – The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) Engine Challenge second event of the 2017 season was held at the Summit Piston Powered AutoRama in Cleveland, Ohio this past weekend where nine teams competed to qualify for the Dual National Championship held at the SEMA and PRI Show later this year.

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge is a huge hit!

The love of racing and performance is something that for many is developed at an early age. In order to help fuel this passion, we want to expose kids to a unique opportunity to showcase workmanship and the awareness of complex mechanisms. This contest will be featured and hosted as a part of the HROT JR Dragster Series & the Midwest Junior Super Series, to be hosted at 9 events all across the central US in 2017.

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge presented by Racequip was kicked off February 25th-26th at the Race and Performance Expo in Schaumburg, IL and let’s just say it was a huge hit! The contest is very simple, a team is comprised of 2 individuals, one team member must be 5-18 years of age, and he or she must completely disassemble/reassemble a complete single cylinder OHV engine utilizing only basic hand tools. Some of the goals of the premise behind this contest is to help individuals develop communication skills and increase self-esteem. The contest will help youngster’s develop great problem solving skills and an understanding of an internal combustion engine.
image005.jpgOver the course of the 2 day RP Expo, we proceeded to have the engines ran through over 40 times, with kids waiting for over an hour to have a chance to develop and showcase their skills at perfecting the teams rebuilding skills on the small engine. Event organizer Ryan Gortney mentioned, “One 5th grade student who participated in the contest on Saturday persuaded his parents to travel the two hours back to the show the next day to have the opportunity to go through the engine a second time. I was overwhelmed by the response to our first event, and excited for the future events in 2017.”

TEAM MOROSO JOINS THE 14 TEAMS ALREADY QUALIFIED FOR HOT RODDERS OF TOMORROW ENGINE CHALLENGE FINALS

FORT WORTH, Tx. April 23, 2013:  Hot Rodders of Tomorrow is a nonprofit organization built upon a passion for motorsports and dedicated to instilling that passion in today’s youth. Its main purpose is to encourage youth to enter the automotive field and the main medium through which this is accomplished is their coveted Engine Challenge Program. In the Engine Challenges, contested across the country, high school teams compete against the clock in a total engine rebuild. At the end of the year, in conjunction with the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show, Hot Rodders of Tomorrow hosts the Engine Challenge Finals. To qualify for this prestigious event, teams must complete a total engine rebuild in less than 35 minutes. Already in 2013, 14 teams have qualified for the Finals.
 
At the recent Painless Performance Open, held April 6th in Fort Worth, Tx. six teams competed for a coveted spot in the finals. Team Moroso of Eastern Oklahoma County Tech Center came in at an incredible time of 20:11 to qualify for the Engine Challenge Finals as the fastest qualifying team of the season.

The winning team, led by instructor Jim LaFevers consisted of students Callie Hunter, Nic Brown, Connor Hixenbaugh, Ryan Jackson, Alex Versteeg and Connor Carrizales.
 
“This is a great opportunity for the students to get a jumpstart in their careers in the automotive field,” LaFevers said of the Engine Challenge. “They are all gearheads. They look for every avenue to get into the industry and Hot Rodders of Tomorrow has given them the opportunity they were looking for.”

LaFevers said the team utilized film, understudy training and a total-engine approach to prepare for the Challenge.
 
“We do intense training for three or four weeks,” he explained. “It’s all about teamwork and communication. While each student trains for their position, all of them understand the way the complete engine works, so that if anyone needed to jump into another position they are ready.
 
“The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge is a great program for building enrollment and getting students excited about a career in the automotive industry. Already I have kids signing up for Automotive next year simply for the opportunity to compete in the Challenge.”
 
Rodney Bingham, who heads up the Hot Rodders Program is thankful for its success in investing in students and furthering the automotive industry. “We are excited to be able to change so many students’ lives,” he stated, “but could not do so without the help of our sponsors and volunteers who make this program possible”.

2013 – We are looking at adding another two events to the schedule and hopefully a total of 150 teams with 1050 students. Also we will be outfitting another Hot Rodders of Tomorrow truck and trailer to help develop and service the west coast event locations.

The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge returned for its third year in California at the 6th Annual Rev’ved up 4 Kids Car Show in beautiful Torrance, CA.
Thirteen High Schools competed at the day long event. First Round consisted of 5 Teams Be-Cool, Mr. Gasket, Egge Machine, K&N Filters, and Moroso. The second round started at 11AM featuring Teams Parts Pro, Hedman Headers, Edelbrock, PRW, and Airaid.

The last three to to compete were teams Royal Purple, Competition Cams, and Energy Suspension. Team Moroso (Loara High School #1) finished in first place and  set a National Speed Record of 24:34. They also got the Race to Perfection Bonus for a perfect engine with no penalties. Their final record breaking qualifying time is 22:34! Second place Team K&N Filters (North Orange County ROP) finished with a time of 31:31, and are the current #1 Wild Card seed for the Showdown @ SEMA National Championship.

Each first place winners received a $5,000 dollar scholarship each from both SAM and OTC. Second place received $3,000 each student, 3rd place received $2,000 each student, and every participating student received 1,000 dollar scholarship from both OTC (Ohio Technical College) & SAM (School of Automotive Machinist). We are VERY proud of all the students and instructors for the great job they did at this event.

The School of Automotive Machinists (SAM) will award $202,000 in
scholarships to six high school automotive teams competing at the Hot
Rodders of Tomorrow National Championship at the 2010 SEMA Show.
Team MSD from Eastern Oklahoma Tech Center, Team Auto Meter from Loara
High School, Team ARP from East Ridge High School, Team PRW from Fremd
High School, Team Edelbrock from North Orange County ROP and Team
Painless from Lakeshore High School will all be competing in the
National Championship Playoffs November 2–5, 2010, in Las Vegas.

Students must properly disassemble the engine using only hand tools,
utilizing proper detorque and disassembly procedure, including the air
cleaner, carb, distributor, plug wires, spark plugs, manifold, headers,
heads, lifters, rocker arms, push rods, timing chain and cover. Then the
oil filter, oil pan, oil pump, plus all eight pistons are removed. The
cam and crank remain in the block. The team then returns behind their
bench and waits for the judges to call them back. Teams then begin
working to reassemble once again with the correct assembly procedure and
torque specs, all while being viewed by judges and spectators.
Time-added penalties for dropped components, improper disassembly,
assembly, sportsmanship, etc., will be added to ensure correct assembly.
All procedure penalties are in the rule book provided to the schools at
the start of the school year. The engines, when reassembled, would fire
up and run if gas, water and oil were added. The team with the fastest
time, including penalty minutes, wins.
