Menard Ready For Home-Track Race At Chicagoland

June 28, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Sylvania team are headed to Menard’s home track, Chicagoland Speedway, for Sunday’s Overton’s 400.

While Chicagoland, in Joliet, Ill., is technically the home track for someone from Menard’s hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, it’s not exactly nearby.

“It’s the closest Cup track to my hometown, but it’s still a six-hour drive away,” Menard said.

“But it’s always exciting to run at your home track.” Continue reading Menard Ready For Home-Track Race At Chicagoland

INDYCAR DRIVER ZACH VEACH SET TO DEMO F3 AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP CAR AT MID-OHIO

The F3 Americas car to make North American on-track debut Friday

LEXINGTON, OHIO (June 28, 2018)- Andretti Autosport IndyCar driver and Ohio native Zach Veach will pilot the all-new Ligier JS F3 race car at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Fri., June 29, for its North American on-track debut. Veach will take a lap on the Mid-Ohio circuit in the F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda car to provide a look at the car at speed on an American track.

An American driver success story, 23-year old Veach has shown great promise in this year’s IndyCar series and currently lies second in the Rookie of the Year standings.

“It’s an honor to have Zach drive the new F3 Americas Championship car,” said SCCA Pro Racing Vice President Steve Oseth. “This is the first time we get to see the car in action, so we are extremely excited for the North American debut to happen at a Honda track that F4 and SCCA Pro has such a rich history with, piloted by a driver who is relatable to our drivers and goals.”

The Ligier JS F3 chassis equipped with the 270-horsepower Honda Civic® Type-R® turbocharged K20C1 motor, a set of Pirelli P Zero slicks and the first North American application of a race car halo is slated to hit the 2.25 mile, 12-turn track after its reveal at 12:05 pm ET.

“We really felt that it was important to do another reveal of the car to drivers, teams, fans and media because the car has changed drastically in look and design since the launch at COTA in October,” said F3 Americas chassis manufacturer and Onroak Automotive North America General Manager Max Crawford. “The original was a concept and test mule, we have done a massive amount of work in Computational Fluid Dynamics and wanted to show everyone the finished product. “

Permatex/Follow A Dream TA/FC Team Reaches Quarterfinals of Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

MARSTONS MILLS, Massachusetts (June 27, 2018)

If there’s one song the Permatex/Follow A Dream Top Alcohol Funny Car team doesn’t want to hear for a while, it’s “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.”

For it was rain – and lots of the wet stuff, indeed – that hampered the team from getting a good baseline or advancing past the quarterfinals of this past weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

Rain interrupted the weekend numerous times, including seven – count ‘em SEVEN times – on Saturday, leaving the Follow A Dream team with just one qualifying attempt before eliminations on Sunday. Menard Finishes 26th On Disappointing Day At Sonoma

Menard Finishes 26th On Disappointing Day At Sonoma

June 25, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Richmond team had a long, hard day on the road at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, finally coming away with a disappointing 26th-place finish.

Menard started the 110-lap race from the 15th position, and the team planned a strategy that had them stopping just prior to the end of the first two Stages. The pit strategy moves were intended to allow the Menards/Richmond team to gain track position once the drivers ahead of them made pit stops during the caution periods following the end of the Stages.

The strategy worked as Menard moved to 11th place for the start of the second 25-lap Stage. It was successful again after the second Stage, and he restarted ninth for the final segment of the race.

But that strategy didn’t work out as planned in a final segment that ran caution-free from Lap 55 until the end of the race. Continue reading Menard Finishes 26th On Disappointing Day At Sonoma

RCR Post Race Report – Sonoma 350

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Dow Camaro ZL1 Team Earn 16th-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

“The Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 had a solid run today, especially considering how far back we started. There’s a saying that our No. 3 Dow Racing team has been going by all weekend in Sonoma – ‘slow is smooth, smooth is fast.’ That’s really how we tried to run our race today. We took advantage of pit strategy by pitting just before the stage breaks and stretching Stage 3 to one stop instead of two. It’s all about race car management here, as the tires fall off pretty quickly. In the end we finished 16th, which is the best we’ve finished here by 1 spot. We’ll take it and keep moving on.”
-Austin Dillon

Ryan Newman and Grainger/American Red Cross Team Earn Stage Points Enroute to 24th-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

“The first two stages went exactly like we had planned. We wanted to run the stages out so that we could earn as many points as possible. Our Grainger/American Red Cross Camaro ZL1 was so much better than the Chevy we had the last time we were here so kudos to the entire RCR organization for giving us a competitive car. We finished the first two stages in the top 10 and going into the final stage, our car needed a little more help through the right turns but we were still capable of a top-10 or top-12 run. Unfortunately, we gambled on what we had hoped would have been a caution, but it did not pan out and it cost us considerable track position. We rallied back but just ran out of laps. We are making gains but we’re not quite able to translate them into the finishes. We’ll get there.”

-Ryan Newman
