Giovanni Scelzi Scores First Career Podium Finish at Knoxville Raceway
Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 31, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi earned his career-best result at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday when he posted a podium finish.
Scelzi did double duty in the Bernie Stuebgen ride by competing in both the 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car divisions for the first time in his career.
Scelzi qualified fifth quickest in his Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions group before placing fifth in a heat race. That relegated him to the B Main, which he won to transfer into the back of the main event. That was a feat in itself as more than 50 drivers vied for one of the 24 feature positions. DETROIT (July 31, 2018) – Throughout its 20 seasons of competition, Corvette Racing has filled its résumé with some of the best racetracks in the world – 26 to be exact. None may be more liked than Road America, the picturesque four-mile track in the Kettle Moraine region of Wisconsin.
The long straights and high speeds of Road America make it a favorite among fans and drivers. That includes, of course, those within the Corvette Racing program. As the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship rolls into the Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Corvette Racing is eager for its eighth class victory at the circuit – which would be No. 100 in IMSA competition – and a chance to close its gap in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) championships. Being a witness to my sister achieving her first Top Alcohol win is one of my favorite memories of 2018. Many of you know that my sister only races in our A/Fuel dragster that was previously driven by my dad a few times a year, simply because she is a full-time employee at an international engineering firm. On her weekends off, Rachel hops in her Super Comp dragster and competes at her local dragstrip, Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri, where she is a top-10 points contender. She is scheduled to race at two more NHRA events – one National event and one Regional event – with our team, and for her it’s all about having fun and getting her hands dirty. Rachel’s Instagram handle is Clutch Girl for a reason; she has been a clutch mechanic on our dragsters for many years and it was her first interest into becoming a mechanical engineer. While she handles the driver duties, she also handles taking out a scorching hot clutch pack immediately after a run and putting in a fresh set of discs and floaters for the next pass.
Our weekend at Heartland Motorsports Park kicked off great and ended even better, as we took the top two qualifying spots and had the best cars on track all weekend long. On the day of eliminations, we had many customers, friends, and family come out to cheer us on, and we ended up feeding over 100 people with our racer appreciation lunch for all of the Top Alcohol pits. For the opening round, I faced off with Dean Dubbin, who is the Central Region points leader that I am now currently tied with, and took the win with lane choice for the next round. Rachel had opponent Terry Schmidt and although she shook, she got the win and later beat Gary Cooper. I lost in the second round to Jared Dreher as I shook and had to lift off the throttle to regain traction, but lost crucial time on the track as he flew by me. We were all very excited and confident going into the finals for Rachel, as it was her second final round of the year and the odds were in her favor to win. Jared had a slight advantage on the tree, but Rachel got around him and took the win with a 5.29 ET at 268 mph. We had many showers for her celebration and had a few of our friends stay for the winner’s circle picture while the track was still running the other Sportsman classes.
Finishing up the month of July and headed into August, I completed most of my summer goals and will check a few more off my list soon. It’s crucial for me to set goals outside of racing to grow financially, physically, and psychologically. My racing season is over halfway done and I only have six races remaining on my schedule (Brainerd, Indy, Earlville, Reading, Charlotte and St. Louis) and all of these races will determine my 2018 points finish. The points chase is close this year, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top after Pomona.

ROBERT HIGHT RACES AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTO WINNER’S CIRCLE AT SONOMA RACEWAY
SONOMA, Calif. (July 29, 2018) — Robert Hight and the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS team raced their way to victory Sunday at the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals in front of a sold-out crowd. Hight led the John Force Racing effort with John Force having a semifinal finish, Brittany Force making a second-round exit and Courtney Force having an early race day with a first round exit.
Hight, who only qualified 11th, had to face a slew of veteran racers on his way to the second win of the season, 43rd of his career and second at Sonoma Raceway. Hight and his Auto Club of Southern California Camaro were consistent throughout the day with three sub three-second runs. Menard Finishes 21st On Long Day At Pocono

From having to start the race from the rear to running the final laps with no brakes, Sunday’s Gander Outdoors 400 at Pocono Raceway was a long, frustrating experience for Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Libman team.
Still, the team came away with a 21st-place finish which keeps him 17th in the overall points standings but saw him lose points to Alex Bowman, who holds the 16th and final spot in the playoff standings. Menard is now 56 points behind Bowman with five regular season races left in which to make up the difference.
Menard had to start Sunday’s race from the 36th position after his 17th-place qualifying time was disallowed when he was one of 13 drivers whose cars failed a post-qualifying inspection Saturday afternoon. Continue reading Menard Finishes 21st On Long Day At Pocono

“The American Ethanol Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was extremely tight through Stage 1. We made chassis adjustments that we were confident would help with handling, but when Stage 2 started it felt like I was driving a pogo stick, and by the end of Stage 2, the car was just way too loose. I have to give it to the entire No. 3 American Ethanol team for working hard and never giving up. I feel like we were actually pretty good on takeoff, so we pitted during a late-race caution for 4 scuff tires, which is all we had left. On the restart, I ended up scraping the Turn 3 Wall with the right side of my car. Luckily, I was able to continue but it killed my momentum and made the car really tight. In the end, it was a hard-earned 13th-place finish.”

“I don’t ever give up and this No. 31 Bass Pro Shops / Cabela’s Camaro ZL1 team doesn’t either. Our race was pretty frustrating to me. I knew we had a top-10 car, but we got blocked quite a bit which caused us to lose momentum and track position, especially during the middle portions of the race. All and all another solid job in the pits for the pit crew. For a while there, our track position didn’t reflect the kind of Chevy Luke Lambert and the team prepared for me, but it doesn’t matter now. We finished eighth and we’ll certainly take that result.”

Alex Bowman led the way for Team Chevy at Pocono Raceway in the Gander Outdoors 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, the 21st event of the 2018 Cup Series season earning a third-place finish.
The third-place effort was a career best finish for the driver of the No. 88 Camaro ZL1, and the run is his second top five finish and eighth top 10 finish of 2018.
