Tyler Reddick Captures Seventh-Consecutive Top-Five Finish of the Season with Third-Place Finish at Dover

“This weekend was another solid weekend for our No. 2 Roland Chevrolet Camaro. It was different to start off with single-car qualifying, but we got a top-five starting spot so we were OK with that. We fired off the race a lot tighter than I expected, but also with a lack of rear grip so it was a tough balance to manage. My crew chief Randall Burnett and the team did a good job on helping with adjustments throughout the race. Right before that late-race caution with about 20 laps to go, the car really started to come to me, we just needed a little bit more. It’s awesome though to have collected another top-five this season and continue to keep our streak of earning stage points in every stage this year. We’ve got some good momentum going over at the No. 2 RCR team, and I can’t wait for us to continue at Charlotte in a few weeks.”

Kaz Grala Shows Speed, Late Race Spin Derails Potential Top-Ten Finish

“It was a fun one at the Monster Mile, but unfortunately we didn’t get the finish we deserved. We had a really fast No. 21 Hot Scream Chevrolet Camaro, but we couldn’t get the track position today. We had various issues leading up to the major issue we had with the No. 23, when we spun with about 40 laps to go. We went a lap down and fought our way into the free pass position, but never caught another caution to get back on the lead lap. This team fought all day, and we had top-10 speed. I think if we ever got the track position, we could of run in the top five. It’s frustrating, but we’ll move onto the next one. I know everyone on this No. 21 team is ready and able to get the job done.”

TALK ABOUT THAT LAST PRACTICE AND HOW IT WENT
“It went well. You know, the track changed so much from the start of practice to the end. I think all the teams are pretty smart to know that you need to keep changing every time you go out, even if the run before was really strong. We kind of kept that philosophy and stayed with the progression of the track and continued to have a lot of pace in the car. So, it’s amazing how fast we are going after 15-20 laps still. There is not much drop off. There is a lot of drop off when you get to a pack of cars in front of you. I think that tall spoiler gives us a lot of confidence by ourselves, but in traffic I think we are going to have less available air and some issues there.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Dover–Jimmie Johnson

CHASE ELLIOTT PUTS CAMARO ZL1 ON POLE AT DOVER
DOVER, Del (May 3, 2019) – For the sixth time in his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) career, Chase Elliott will lead the field to the green flag in Sunday’s Gander RV 400 at Dover International Speedway. It is the first pole at the famed track known as ‘The Monster Mile’ for the driver of the No. 9 NAPA Brakes Camaro ZL1. In single-file qualifying, Elliott ran a fast lap of 21.692 seconds, 165.960 mph.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver captured the 25th pole for Chevrolet at the 1-mile concrete oval, which also marks its 705th in NASCAR’s premier division, and the sixth pole for the Camaro ZL1 thus far this year.

Starting alongside Elliott will be teammate William Byron, behind the wheel of the No. 24 Axalta Camaro ZL1, to make it an all-Chevrolet front row for Hendrick Motorsports.

Kyle Larson qualified third in his No. 42 Credit One Bank Camaro ZL1 for Chip Ganassi Racing, and Hendrick Motorsports team member, Alex Bowman, was fifth in his No. 88 Nationwide Small Business Camaro ZL1.

Seven-time MENCS champion, Jimmie Johnson, who is an 11-time winner at Dover in a Chevrolet, will start 12th in his No. 48 Ally Camaro ZL1 for the 400 lap/400 mile race.

Joey Logano (Ford) qualified fourth to round out the top 5 starters.

FS1 will telecast the 400-lap Gander RV 400 live at 2 p.m. ET Sunday, May 5. Live coverage can also be found on MRN and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

TALK ABOUT YOUR LAP AND WHERE YOU THINK YOU GOT THE EDGE OVER WILLIAM?
“I felt like I got a little tight in one and two and I was afraid that it wasn’t going to be good enough. But the car had a really good three and four. I haven’t seen the data yet so I really don’t know. If I had to guess, it would be that. I could be wrong because when I guess, I am usually wrong. But it was a great lap, I appreciate the effort, and it’s been a great week. Things can go south a lot quicker than they can go good. It’s just a starting spot, but we will try and take advantage of it with that good pit box on Sunday.”

DO YOU THINK THE MAIN REASON FOR THE SPEEDS SLOWING DOWN WAS THE WEATHER, FROM THE FIRST PRACTICE?

“Yeah, the sun is out now and shining and it was pretty hot. It was overcast and foggy all morning. When the sun comes out and all these other guys had practice all day, so its going to rubber down. When it rubbers down, its going to lose grip. That is just kind of part of it and luckily we were able to get a good one down before it got rubbered up too much.”

EVERYONE AT HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS SEEMED TO KEEP THEIR SPEED. DO YOU THINK THAT IS A GOOD SIGN FOR SUNDAY TOO?
“I hope so. Its better than the opposition. In the end, it’s just a starting spot but I haven’t had many poles, so we are definitely going to enjoy it. Good Fridays are better than bad ones. Having a good pit box at this place is……they are all important…. but at this place for sure. I think track position is going to be key so hopefully we can use it to our advantage.”

FOLLOWING THAT TALLADEGA WIN, HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU TO HAVE THAT ALL HENDRICK FRONT ROW?
“It is great, but not only having an Hendrick Motorsports front row, but a Team Chevy front row. After all the Chevy work last week this is nice. So hopefully we keep going in the right direction. But again, Fridays are Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays are very different. You are just trying to go fast for two laps. We have a lot of work left to do this weekend but I am excited that we could get our NAPA Brakes Chevy on the front row and we will go to work.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA BRAKES CAMARO ZL1 – Pole Winner
YOU WON HERE IN THE FALL AND NOW YOU’VE CAPTURED YOUR FIRST POLE AT DOVER. WHAT WERE THOSE TWO QUALIFYING LAPS LIKE FOR YOU?
“Super fast. The corner speeds are just so high. There’s just a lot more throttle through the corner than what I feel like we’ve been carrying. But it was a lot of fun. Our NAPA Brakes Chevy was good right there. It’s always nice. This place can either be a lot of fun in qualifying, or it can be a handful. Today was one of those fun ones. Team Hendrick 1-2 (William Byron qualified 2nd) was awesome, Chevrolet power and everybody that contributes to our car has been working hard. Hopefully we can back it up on Sunday.”

LOOKING FORWARD TO SUNDAY WITH THE HIGH SPEEDS AND NEW PACKAGE, HOW MUCH OF A CHALLENGE IS THAT GOING TO BE FOR YOU PHYSICALLY?
“It’s going to be a really tough race. So, you’d better eat your Wheaties these next couple of days and hydrate, because I think Sunday is going to be tough, especially if the sun is out like it is right now. Just a big thanks to all my guys. The No. 9 team has been working really hard and all of our group. We have a good group. We’ve just got to keep after it and hopefully stay where we start on Sunday.”

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT MOVING BACK TO SINGLE-CAR QUALIFYING?
“I am kind of glad to be back to it and I am glad to be able to just do it once as opposed to three times. Sitting there and trying to find a hole is not that much fun for a driver. So, I understand why we had to do it and I get it for the fans. It’s probably not as good of a show as group qualifying, but it will be exciting here for sure.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Dover–Alex Bowman
