Giovanni Scelzi Posts Top-10 Outing During World of Outlaws Race at Port Royal

Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi garnered his 35th top 10 of the season last Friday during the opening round of the Nittany Showdown.

Scelzi and car owner Bernie Stuebgen kicked off the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Port Royal Speedway by qualifying fifth quickest out of 26 drivers in their group.

“That was the key,” Scelzi said. “With the World of Outlaws format qualifying is everything. Especially on a night like that with how fast and narrow the track was for the heat races.”

The strong qualifying effort lined Scelzi up on the outside of the front row for a heat race. He finished in the runner-up position to earn a spot into a dash. Unfortunately, Scelzi pulled the highest number in the dash draw to line up last. He gained one position to finish fifth, lining him up 10th for the A Main.

“The biggest thing that hurt us was the dash draw,” he said. “Also, we didn’t have very good restarts in the feature. It seemed like I lost a couple of spots on the start and restarts and would have to gain them back. But we ended up going from 10th to eighth so there was nothing to complain about.”

Scelzi’s eighth-place outing was his 12th top 10 of the season during World of Outlaws competition.

He qualified 12th quickest in his group on Saturday before rain washed out the remainder of the program.

Scelzi will be off this weekend before resuming action Nov. 7-9 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the Can-Am World Finals with the World of Outlaws. He earned his second career World of Outlaws victory and his first at the track earlier this season.
