Chevrolet drivers sweep No. 1 qualifying spots at Dallas
Brittany and John Force set another record; Jeg Coughlin Jr. goes to the top
ENNIS, Texas (October 19, 2019) – Chevrolet drivers keep making waves in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Countdown to the Championship.

In four rounds of qualifying for the AAA Texas NHR FallNationals at Texas Motorplex, Team Chevy drivers Brittany Force (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car) and Jeg Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock) claimed No. 1 spots heading into race day October 20.

Chevrolet drivers have amassed an impressive 37 low qualifier honors in the three professional categories through 22 of 24 Top Fuel and Funny Car events and 16 of 18 Pro Stock races.

Brittany Force, driving the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet dragster, reset the track Top Fuel elapsed time record with a pass of 3.651 seconds. Her father, 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force, topped the class with a run of 3.834 seconds with a career-best 337.33 mph in the PEAK Coolant & Motor Oil/BlueDEF Chevrolet Camaro SS.

“That run was very important, earned us three bonus points. We’re chasing that points lead and it’s not out of our reach,” said Brittany Force, who enters race day third in points. “What we are looking at, more than a No. 1 qualifier, is winning on race day.”

It is the second time the father-daughter duo has secured the top spots in the same event. They accomplished the NHRA-record feat earlier this season in Houston. Brittany Force earned her eighth No 1 qualifying spot of the season and 18th in her career. John Force recorded his fifth low qualifier of the season and 160th of his legendary career.

“This PEAK BlueDEF team has given me a great race car so I’m excited about that and we got the low qualifier, that’s more than just getting in the show,” Force said.

Teammate and Funny Car points leader Robert Hight enters the fourth of six Countdown races as the No. 2 qualifier with a best run of 3.851 seconds at 335.07 seconds in the AAA Texas Chevrolet Camaro SS. Hight has won the past two fall races at the Texas Motorplex, and won the most recent race October 14 at zMAX Dragway.

Coughlin, driving the JEGS.com Chevrolet Camaro SS, registered a best run of 6.509 seconds at 211.53 mph to edge out Elite Motorsports teammate Erica Enders (6.510). Enders, who was the top qualifier in the first three races of the Countdown, is the Pro Stock points leader in the Melling Performance Chevrolet Camaro SS.

“With three races to go in the championship chase we’re trying to be as aggressive as possible all the way around,” Coughlin said. “We have Elite cars 1 and 2, so congratulations to the whole Elite Motorsports team. We were No. 1 here a year ago so it’s a track that’s favored us in the past. You gotta love Texas.”

NHRA rookie of the year candidate Austin Prock moved from 11th on the grid to seventh with a stout fourth-round run of 3.714 seconds in the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster.
