Dominic Scelzi Looking Forward to Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Aug. 28, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi is excited to head to Calistoga Speedway this weekend for the famed Louie Vermeil Classic.

Scelzi will pilot a winged sprint car for Roth Motorsports during the marquee event this Saturday and Sunday at the half-mile oval in Calistoga, Calif., where he was victorious in 2017.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “I’ve been fast there a lot and have won there so I have extremely high expectations going into the weekend.”

Scelzi enters the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series doubleheader ranked third in the championship standings – only 19 points out of the lead – with five races remaining this season.

The team scored a trio of top-10 finishes to kick off a four-race weekend that was capped with a fifth-place finish last Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track. It marked the 22nd top five of the season for Scelzi – his most in a single season.

“We fought a really tight race car the first three nights before we made a change for Saturday,” he said. “We could immediately tell the difference so we’re excited moving forward.”

Scelzi was able to move forward in each main event, rallying from 13 th to 10th last Thursday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif.; from 17th to eighth on Friday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.; and from 12th to 10 th on Friday at Stockton Dirt Track to begin the Champions Classic doubleheader.

Saturday was his best showing as he set quick time during qualifying out of a field of 24 competitors. A fourth-place result in a heat race preceded winning the pole shuffle, which gave Scelzi the pole for the main event.

“We were a little too tight, but the car was night and day different than it had been,” he said. “We’re not pleased with dropping positions and finishing fifth, but we are excited to see how this direction will take us this weekend at Calistoga.”
