RYAN PREECE, NO. 47 KROGER CAMARO ZL1, MET WITH THE MEDIA FOR A BREAKOUT SESSION ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON. HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF THAT SESSION:

REGARDING DIFFERENCE IN THE CAR FROM FEBRUARY
“I am not quite sure because I have not run a Cup car here in the summer, but we fought being very loose. So, we made a big swing at it and helped it a little bit, but we still need a lot more.”

AT THIS POINT OF THE SEASON ARE YOU MORE MINDFUL OF POINTS AND GETTING EVERYTHIGN YOU CAN?

“I think you are a bit mindful of things over the last 10 races, but this is an opportunity for us because we have had a lot of luck and have stayed out of the wrecks for the first two superspeedways, so as long as we are in contention those last three laps or so, this is one where you are going to put it all out there and push a little bit more. You are probably get a little more aggressive to put yourself in that spot to possibly steal a win and kind of be that upset, I guess. Right?

WERE YOU A TOP TEN CAR HERE IN FEBRUARY OR WERE YOU MORE A SURVIVOR?

“That is really hard to say because some suck up better than others and have a little bit more of a dominant car. But I would say that everybody has a shot when they come to these superspeedways. I would say we had a Chevrolet that was capable of the right scenario and right situation of possibly winning the race. But with the way the cars drive right now, they do drive a lot different from what I feel from the restrictor plates. Maybe others don’t feel that way, but I do. So as long as we can keep making gains on the handling of our car, I definitely feel like we will have a shot at it for sure.”

DALE EARNHART JR. SAID THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT STYLE OF DRAFTING AND THAT YOU WON’T STICK WITH ONE PARTER, THAT YOU WILL HAVE DIFFERENT PARTNERS IN THE RACE AND WILL TAKE MORE FOCUS

“Yeah, I think based on what we saw at Talladega, guys will get huge runs and that slingshot kind of run. So, I think everybody is going to be using each other for sure. I don’t know what the right or wrong answer is going to be and I think that is how everybody else is going to feel.”

REGARDING DIRECT ORDERS TO WORK TOGETHER

“Yeah, I think everybody is going to do what is best for everybody’s organizations and everybody’s manufacturers for sure.”

INAUDIBLE

“That is so tough to say. I think everybody saw it at Talladega where the Chevys pinned down on the bottom and we pushed each other and made sure Chevy won. Hopefully, when it comes down to it, the 47 and the 37 are the ones leading with one to go and finished the same way. That would be nice but we are going to make sure, hopefully, that a bowtie wins that race.”

HAVE YOU ALREADY HAD THOSE MEETINGS?

“No.”

DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THOSE MEETINGS?

“I don’t know. I couldn’t tell you. Not yet, and if it is, its going to be a surprise.”

REGARDING THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TAPERED SPACER AND RESTRICTOR PLATE

“It’s almost like with the restrictor plate you hit that max speed and that is it. Your car isn’t capable aerodynamically of going any faster than 185 if we use that as a reference point. With the tapered spacer, it allows a little bit more air to go into the motor with a little more speed. So it recovers a little quicker, is capable of going a little faster, and when you have a little less resistance from the air in front of you when the car punches a big hole – that less resistance creates more speed. Creates a bigger run. That bubble effect when you run through it, you can break through it. I am no engineer, but that is what it just feels like inside the race car.”
