Giovanni Scelzi Scores Top-10 Result During Debut at Perris Auto Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – PERRIS, Calif. (April 1, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi capped his West Coast swing with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series by recording a top-10 finish last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway.

Scelzi guided the Roth Motorsports entry to a 10th-place effort during the SoCal Showdown, marking his fourth top 10 of the season. It was also his ninth career top 10 with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt.’

“It was good to end on a positive note,” he said. “I want to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth, Todd Ventura and everyone at Roth Motorsports for the opportunity.”

The weekend began on Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where Scelzi rebounded from a 29th-place qualifying run to charge from eighth to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the ninth starting position for the main event.

“We had a great run in the heat to overcome qualifying,” he said. “I was running eighth in the feature when I slid across the middle to get by a guy. Someone was coming on the outside and hit my right front, which spun me around. It broke the front end and we didn’t have enough time in the work area to get it fixed and to get back out.”

Scelzi rallied the following night at Perris Auto Speedway, where he timed in 20th quickest in qualifying before maneuvering from seventh to fifth place in a heat race. The night ended with a run from 14 th to 10th in the A Main during his debut at the half-mile oval.

“The track was good most of the night,” he said. “It was slick and you could race on it from top to bottom. I had a decent restart right before it took rubber in the feature. I passed a few cars and then when it took rubber there was no passing after that.”

Scelzi will take this weekend off and is unsure of his racing plans for the following weekend.
