Dominic Scelzi Rallies for Top-15 Run During World of Outlaws Show in Tulare

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (March 11, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi salvaged a top-15 result last Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event.

After Friday’s opening round of the doubleheader rained out, Scelzi and his family owned team ventured to the bullring on Saturday for the finale. He qualified 13th quickest out of more than 30 competitors to kick off the action.

“We qualified decent,” he said. “We were 13th quick on the clock, but only six hundredths of a second off the top five. I felt really good. Then in the heat the inside row was better on the start and I fell to fifth. I was running the top and was almost going to get around (Shane) Golobic when a yellow came out. He moved up and I couldn’t run the top the way I was before.”

Scelzi ended the heat race sixth, which was only one position shy of making the A Main. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, in which a runner-up result garnered a transfer into the back of the main event.

“I thought the track would slick off and it didn’t,” he said. “That’s the biggest thing we fought in the feature. We should have freed the car up more.”

Scelzi still maneuvered from 22nd to a 15th-place finish, which was his best result of the season during World of Outlaws competition. It was the second-most cars passed in the race.

His next opportunity is this Friday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., during the Silver Dollar Shootout presented by Reibes NAPA Auto Parts and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.

“I’m excited to get back to Silver Dollar Speedway because we’ve run well there,” he said. “With a new package we’re running you don’t know how you’ll feel, but we’ll treat it like we would any other night and hopefully be close right away. And we’ve won a lot of races at Stockton. Hopefully we have the speed like we normally do and that will translate to success.”
