Dominic Scelzi Posts First Podium of the Season During Debut With Roth Motorsports

Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi captured his first podium finish of the season in only his second race of 2019 last Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway.

Scelzi had a stout debut in a Roth Motorsports entry, improving every time he hit the track before scoring a third-place run in the main event to cap the night.

“We gained on it a lot,” he said. “That makes me feel good. I know we have a heck of a race car and I see a lot of potential for it. Thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth for the opportunity as well as Todd Ventura, Jeff, Brandon and Scotty for their hard work.”

The night began with Scelzi qualifying 12th quickest overall.

“We won hot laps, but didn’t time in very well,” he said. “I just hit two different holes in qualifying and it cost us. In the heat race I hit a different hole. The track was super rough. I couldn’t get around the holes or maneuver through the holes. We made a lot of changes for the feature and we were pretty good. We continued to free the car up every time we hit the track because it was extremely cowboy up and extremely rough.”

A runner-up result in a heat race lined Scelzi up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event. He rallied to score a third-place finish and his seven positions gained was tied for the second-most cars passed.

“We were every bit as good as the guys that ran first and second,” he said. “It was a bummer we got behind the eight ball early. It definitely was a good ending to the night. I’m hungry to win so bad that anything but a win is upsetting. However, we went there to learn and we learned a lot.”

Scelzi will climb back into his family owned No. 41s this Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown presented by Star Nursery with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. He will then rejoin Roth Motorsports on Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., for the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series season opener.

“We had decent speed at Las Vegas last year,” he said. “I’ve run well there and we’ve won races at Stockton so I feel pretty confident. I think we’ll be in good shape for both. I’m just excited to get back going.”
