RCR Post Race Report – Duels

Austin Dillon And The Dow Chevrolet Team Earn Ninth-Place Finish in The Duels at Daytona

“Man, what a race. I learned a lot for Sunday about the side-draft and how it works. We were shuffled to the back in our Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, almost exactly like what happened in the Clash last Sunday. Starting at the bottom is not the place to be – at least not when you have a small field. When you get 40 cars out there, it may be a little bit different. It was good to run all of those laps on old tires because we learned that we need to work on our handling. We’ll do that tomorrow during practice. We’ll probably do a little bit of drafting to get the car tightened up. The good thing is the Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has plenty of speed. We’ll fine tune it a little bit and get it driving better. If we do that, I feel like we have a car fast enough to compete in the Daytona 500. We just have to get it handling right.”

Daniel Hemric Uses Duel to Learn Lessons for Daytona 500 in
No. 8 Bass Pro Shops / Caterpillar Chevrolet

“I feel like we learned what we needed to go race on Sunday. It was cool to start near the front of the field with this No. 8 Bass Pro Shops / Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The top lane formed up and I could not get off the bottom quick enough and lost the draft early on. We were just trying to keep digging and shake everything down at that point, then we had a pit road penalty for having the crew member over the wall too soon and lost a lap. We were in a spot to get our lap back for a while, but when that caution came out Tyler Reddick had just been lapped and got the free pass. We learned some good things in the draft at the end of the race, so we will clean some things up and focus on the task at hand for Sunday’s Daytona 500.”

Tyler Reddick and the No. 31 SYMBICORT® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dihydrate) Team Take Notes for Sunday’s Daytona 500

“I learned a lot tonight during my Duel race in the No. 31 SYMBICORT Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It was the first time I was really racing against anyone in a Cup Series car, so I picked up a lot of notes for Sunday. We hopefully worked out all our kinks tonight and won’t be making any of those same mistakes on Sunday, but it was good to get out there and know what we need to work on a little more over the next two days. I was just a little loose on track tonight and need some more drivability back in the car for the race, but I’m confident that my crew chief Justin Alexander and the team can get it to right where we need it to be.”
