Dominic Scelzi Nets Top 10 During Season Debut at Stockton Dirt Track

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi set himself up to contend for a victory during his season opener last Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track.

Scelzi maneuvered his family owned 360ci winged sprint car from sixth to third place in his first of twin heat races before posting a runner-up result in the second heat.

“We got there and hot lapped twice because the track was wet,” he said. “We were quickest both times we went out and I felt like we had good speed. We drew the No. 79 out of 80 so we started last in the first heat race and did what we could. We started on the pole of the second heat, but the inside line didn’t get a good start in any race and we dropped to second. The track had a groove through the middle, but the bottom and top were extremely greasy.”

Scelzi accumulated enough points through the heat races to make the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 1 to garner the pole position for the main event.

“It was the same story as every heat race; the outside went and the inside was in the grease,” he said. “We dropped to third right away. Then on Lap 2 I hit a hole in turn three. I bounced really hard and it stalled the motor. I went to the back and made about 10-to-12 laps. I pulled off because I didn’t want to risk tearing up our equipment since the track was one lane.”

Scelzi was credited with a ninth-place finish after exiting the track midway through the main event.

He will return to action on Feb. 23 at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he will make his season debut with Roth Motorsports.
