TEAM CHEVY NOTES & QUOTES:
RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 E-Z-GO CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified 8th
NICE STARTING SPOT FOR YOU HERE IN THE LAST RACE OF THE SEASON:
“It was an improvement over where we practiced for sure and the guys did a good job. We are still lacking just overall grip, I think, with the E-Z-Go Chevrolet, but it was a good improvement and we’ve got two more days to make it 100 percent. I thought we did a good job there from what we qualified last year, but definitely want to be better than that.”

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 CREDIT ONE BANK/DC SOLAR CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified 11th
NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO START AT YOUR FAVORITE RACE TRACK, BUT STILL A FINAL ROUND SHOWING:
“Yeah, I mean it’s still better than where we typically start for Homestead. It doesn’t matter. We will be good in the race once I can get up by the wall. Just wish I wouldn’t have gotten into the wall there in qualifying because I would have gone a little bit quicker, but we will be fine.”

DID YOU GET INTO THE WALL DURING THE FINAL ROUND?
“Yeah, in Turns 1 and 2.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified 14th
JUST HOW FINE OF A LINE IS IT OUT THERE FROM HAVING A GOOD LAP TO NOT EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR?
“It’s a tough place to go fast at for sure, but same crowd goes fast here as they do everywhere else. Really no excuse, but yeah, I look forward to the race on Sunday. We have just been struggling at our qualifying efforts at these bigger tracks. I hate that. That is an important thing especially down here to qualify well, especially if you were part of the four, so they’ve got to get a little better.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S ROOKIE THROWBACK CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified 19th
WHERE DID YOU NEED THE CAR TO GET A LITTLE BIT BETTER?
“I think I just made the wrong lane selection in Round 1 and we had to re-run and that cost us the ability to really kind of advance here in this second round. The car was driving good the second out… really the first outing I just ran the wrong line I think and put an extra lap on the tires. But it’s been interesting to look in the mirror over the last six or eight hours, definitely a different look, but with a throwback like this and the commitment from Lowe’s and our time with Lowe’s, I just felt like it was the right thing to do and a fun thing to do.”

TY DILLON, NO. 13 GEICO CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified 31st
“It’s tough to come here at the end of the year, every year, and you haven’t run any laps since last year. So, the turnaround if pretty long and you have a lot of racing. But, it’s just unfortunate we didn’t really get the lap that we wanted. But, we always race pretty good here. I love this race track and I love that it’s multiple grooves. You can run from the white line all the way to the wall. And that seems to fit my style pretty good. So, we’ll be looking forward to going forward in the race. I think we were running in the top 15 with a couple of laps to go last year and had a flat tire. And, I think we started 31st (laughs). So, we know we can go forward. This is definitely a place for that; especially with the way the tires fall off. It suits our team really well. So, we’re going to have a great day on Sunday and finish out the year strong.”
