Giovanni Scelzi Rallies for Podiums at Eldora Speedway and LaSalle Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – LASALLE, Ill. (Sept. 25, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi scored a pair of podium finishes last weekend during a busy tripleheader.

The action began on Friday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the BeFour the Crowns Showdown with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Scelzi guided the Bernie Stuebgen owned sprint car to quick time in their group and third quickest overall out of more than 40 drivers.

“I felt like Friday was our best night,” he said. “We set quick time and had a good heat and a good dash. Qualifying is so valuable. To be on the front row of a heat race and to be in the dash is critical.”

Scelzi placed second in the heat race and sixth in the dash to line up on the outside of the third row for the A Main.

“We battled around the top five early,” he said. “On a restart I almost got together with a guy. Then I hit the cushion and came down trying to diamond off the corner. Another driver came up and we made contact. It broke the left rear suspension and we weren’t able to go back out.”

Scelzi ended with a DNF, but he bounced back the following night at Eldora Speedway, which hosted the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during the 4-Crown Nationals. Scelzi qualified fifth quickest overall out of 40-plus drivers before he placed second in a heat race to make a dash. A sixth-place run in the dash lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

“We were awesome rolling right through the middle,” he said. “Wherever we would go I could pick guys off. We got to third around halfway. I stalled out right behind Parker Price-Miller. On a late restart I didn’t get my right rear tire hot enough and sealed it up and couldn’t do anything from there. I’m disappointed with third, but you have to look at how fast you were and the progress you made.”

Scelzi’s third-place run was his best ever at the famed half-mile oval. It also marked his fourth top five of the season with the All Stars. Here is a link to watch the race: https://youtu.be/blocayU5wOE.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with an IRA Sprint Car Series and MOWA Series event at LaSalle Speedway. Scelzi qualified seventh quickest and he advanced from third to second place in a heat race before lining up sixth for the main event.

“I slid my way to second on the first lap,” he said. “Parker Price-Miller had a big lead in the beginning, but I ran him down in traffic before we had a caution. I slid him twice, but he drove back underneath me both times. We were about the same speed. I think if we were leading he’d have finished second like we did to him.”
