QUOTABLE QUOTES:
KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 DC SOLAR CAMARO ZL1 – 10TH IN STANDINGS
“I always have the Bristol races circled on my calendar, and really look forward to the night race. This is definitely a race I want to win, and I feel like our team has some unfinished business after leading a lot of laps at the spring race and coming in second. We always bring fast Chevy’s to Bristol and think we have a chance to win every time we go there. The race is intense and aggressive, and one of the most fun of the year.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 KELLEY BLUE BOOK CAMARO ZL1 – 11TH IN STANDINGS
ON LEARNING FROM AN ON-TRACK INCIDENT EARLIER THIS YEAR AT BRISTOL:
“Bristol is Bristol, it hasn’t really changed a lot in the time that I have been there. Usually the same people run good there every time and I thought we had a pretty good car there in the spring. Obviously, it’s easy to say that when you crash, but I did think our car was pretty decent in practice, so that is encouraging, I think, and you know Jimmie (Johnson) won there last year straight up against the guys that were dominant all season. I think that we can go there and give ourselves a chance.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S FOR PROS CAMARO ZL1 – 14TH IN STANDINGS
“Bristol really takes a lot out of you both mentally and physically. It’s the most physical track we run and you have to stay sharp and, on your toes, while there is just chaos everywhere. We’ve put together some solid finishes the past few races at Bristol and had a good run in the spring race. Last week at Michigan was one of the best cars my team gave me all year, if it wasn’t for a loose wheel at the end we would have been a solid top-10. We are making progress.”

ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 VALVOLINE CAMARO ZL1 – 15TH IN STANDINGS
“Bristol Motor Speedway is a lot of close racing, and in the spring, we had a really good car there. We struggled through practice and then all of a sudden in the race it was really strong. I think track position means a lot there and we started closer to the front, but our car was really good in the race. I think we can definitely take that same package and probably be really good there this weekend.”

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 BASS PRO SHOPS/CABELA’S CAMARO ZL1 – 19TH IN STANDINGS
ON WHERE HE GOT THE NICKNAME ‘ROCKET MAN’:
“I believe it all started in 2003 when I won a bunch of poles. When I won the pole at Bristol, I ran a 14.91. I’m not sure if it was Larry Mac or Mike Joy, or who it was but I think one of them said on T.V. that I rocketed off of the corner. I think that was kind of when Rocket Man started.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 DOW NORKOOL CAMARO ZL1 – 20TH IN STANDINGS
ON BRISTOL’S TRACK SENSITIVITIES:
“It is. We look at notes a lot from prior races and years. The hardest thing is throwing some of the set-up stuff you learned from the first race away due to the temperature change. Also, the tires wear differently and we will be working hard on tire wear when we get there.”

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1 – 21ST IN STANDINGS
“I think the Bristol night race is the signature race of the summertime. It’s a lot of fun just as a fan, and hopefully a lot of fun as a driver. It’s a good track. Bristol’s just very intense on your body – I feel like it’s the most intense race of the year physically. I think you just prepare for that and try to make sure you’re ready for 500 laps there.”

JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 CESSNA/MCDONALD’S CAMARO ZL1 – 22ND IN STANDINGS
“Going to one of my favorite tracks this weekend. This race in particular seems like it is always a lot of fun for the teams and fans. It is like old-school short-track racing on a Saturday night. It is always impressive to see how many people can fit inside such a small track. I think that if I were a fan, this would be a bucket-list event to attend. From a driver standpoint it is just super intense. The track is so fast and things can change in an instant. Everyone has to really be on their game all night to try and stay out of trouble, or be ready when it happens”.

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER CLICKLIST CAMARO ZL1 – 23RD IN STANDINGS
“Bristol Motor Speedway is a little different now since they put the compound down. The bottom groove lasts longer with the addition of the traction compound. The Bristol spring race is hard to get a read from, because of the rainy and snowy weather and having to finish the race on Monday. In the spring during our practice sessions, we would run the top, and then it would rain and wash it out so we ended up using the bottom a lot more. In the end, with 500 laps around a half-mile track and 40 stock cars, that compound gets used up and eventually you get to the top because you just run out of real estate. I think what we see now is in practice, we still run the bottom mostly. Some guys try to work the top in and once those first few drivers start, then everyone tries to make their way up there. For the first 200-300 laps, the bottom works. But, the last 150 laps are going to be the guys that can make the top roll. You can do all you want to try and stay on the bottom groove, but the top is going to be the place where the race winner is coming to the checkered. Hopefully, that’s where our Kroger ClickList Camaro ZL1 will be.”

CHRIS BUESCHER, NO. 37 BUSH’S BEANS CAMARO ZL1 – 24TH IN STANDINGS
ON THE TRACTION COMPOUND AT BRISTOL:
“The traction compound that they put down is a balancing act. The first time they did it, it was three-feet wide and too narrow. Then the second time, it was ten-feet wide, which was too wide. But, we got it back to a width where I feel like it’s usable for a while, then throughout the course of the race it fades back down. However, it doesn’t wear away evenly. It wears out in patchy spots. So, it’ll have a ton of grip, and then it’ll have no grip and it ends up giving you these really bad feelings. It’s like when you’re flying and you hit a pocket of air and the plane drops ten feet, that’s what it feels like going into the corner and out of nowhere you lose grip and don’t know why, and then it grips up again. It changes where the line goes during the race. We’re definitely searching for a new line once that compound wears out. As far as the top groove goes, the top has a tremendous amount of grip once someone is brave enough to run up there and clean it off. It just makes it a lot of fun. We’ve had some strong runs there, but accidents have ended our day early. We’re looking forward to putting it all together and being there at the end with a shot at it.”

DARRELL ‘BUBBA’ WALLACE, NO. 43 MEDALLION BANK/PETTY’S GARAGE CAMARO ZL1 – 25TH IN STANDINGS
“We led laps in the spring and that makes us want to get back to Bristol. This is a track that really levels the playing field for a team like ours. We’ve proven that we can go out there and take the lead, race for the lead, and that gives us a lot of confidence. We learned a lot of things in the spring race for Saturday night, too. We are bringing back the same Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, so we feel we should have a good night.”

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 95 THORNE WELLNESS CAMARO ZL1 – 28TH IN STANDINGS
“Bristol during the day and Bristol at night create two different races for sure. The way that the temperature outside affects the track and has a lot to do with that as well. I think that overall, the night race to me turns into the top line being the preferred place to be because on the bottom, you just can’t move around as much it seems. You honestly never know at Bristol, so that can be tough. I think that the atmosphere for the night race is really awesome, and I always enjoy racing under the lights there. Bristol is just a place that’s known for good short-track racing in the middle of a summer night. The cars always look great under the lights there and it looks so cool with all the fans surrounding the track when they seem to be on top of the track. It’s not always easy to get that balance where you need it at Bristol, but I always know what I’m looking for out of my car there. When you land in the corner, the car travels a bunch, so the way that the front tires pick up turn initially, and through the rest of that corner, is everything when you’re racing at Bristol. We had a strong Chevy earlier this year for the first Bristol race, so I’m feeling confident that we should be able to build off of what we learned back in April heading into this weekend’s race.”
