Giovanni Scelzi Learns Throughout World of Outlaws Event at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 3, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi was consistent last weekend at Knoxville Raceway during the Brownells Big Guns Bash with the World of Outlaws.

Scelzi and car owner Bernie Stuebgen started the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader on Friday by qualifying seventh quickest in their group before advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race to lock into the ninth starting position for the A Main, which only the top 24 of the 40 drivers on hand qualified for.

“Our heat race Friday was really good,” Scelzi said. “In the feature we caught a vibration. We were running 10th and I was making good time on the cushion. We had a tire go out of balance. I figured it was smarter to run the bottom in case anything happened than to be up against the fence and get into it.”

Scelzi held on for a 13th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Scelzi timing in eighth quickest in his group. A fifth-place finish in a heat race started him 20th in the main event.

“It was hard to move around because you’re in such dirty air,” he said. “I was up to 15th for a while. Then I got to throwing sliders with a guy and got balled up on the cushion and we lost a couple of spots. Running 25 laps both nights was good for us to learn. I think we’re more prepared for the next time we race Knoxville.”

Scelzi settled for a 17th-place run. He and Stuebgen have made all six A Mains during World of Outlaws races contested together and have done so without having to compete in a Last Chance Showdown.

Scelzi will take this weekend off before tackling the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic on July 10 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and the 35 th annual Kings Royal July 12-14 at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws.
