Dominic Scelzi Earns Hard Charger Award During AGCO Jackson Nationals Finale

Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (June 12, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi’s first event during his summer excursion to the Midwest was a success last weekend at Jackson Motorplex.

Scelzi posted a top 10 during preliminary action before garnering the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars during the finale of the 40 th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals, a marquee event with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series that showcased more than 40 competitors.

“It was really good,” he said. “I was able to qualify decent the first night and that set us up well. In the main event we were able to run the bottom the majority of the race. The track was really fast. It was good to get through the field and pick up another top 10 with the Outlaws.”

The opening round of the tripleheader was postponed on Thursday because of rain. Scelzi tackled the 4/10-mile oval on Friday. He qualified seventh in his group, placed fourth in a heat race and rallied from 14th to ninth in the A Main.

Thursday’s rained out preliminary night was held on Saturday afternoon.

“I was the last guy out in qualifying,” he said. “You don’t usually want that at any race, but especially not during a day race when the track is going to slow down. We didn’t get a good enough time.”

Scelzi timed in 12th quickest in his group. A seventh-place finish in a heat race relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. Scelzi placed eighth in the race to close the program.

The event wrapped up Saturday evening. Scelzi ended sixth in a heat race before a runner-up result in the Last Chance Showdown garnered a transfer into the 40-lap, $40,000-to-win main event.

“The top slowed down enough to where it wasn’t the predominant lane early in the feature,” he said. “I got the bottom working for about 15 laps. As the bottom started slowing down I moved to the top and was able to make more ground up. I was up to 11th before the final yellow. I made a mistake and slipped out of the rubber and ended 14th. I was definitely happy to make such a big race and have the speed we did.”

Scelzi’s rally from 22nd to 14th earned the Hard Charger Award. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/lggQcEbCT9U.

Scelzi has a tripleheader on tap for this weekend. He will compete on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., for the Northern Tour with the World of Outlaws; on Saturday at Devil’s Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D., with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association; and on Sunday at Nodak Speedway in Minot, N.D., for the Magic City Showdown with the World of Outlaws.
