Giovanni Scelzi Enjoys First-Career Race in Central Pennsylvania

Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 8, 2018) – Although Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, Giovanni Scelzi was pleased with how his debut in Central Pennsylvania went last weekend.

Two of his three races rained out, leaving Friday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com and United Racing Club event at Williams Grove Speedway as the lone opportunity to compete.

“It was cool,” he said. “It was one of the most unique places I’ve been to by far. It was neat to see the bridge and Beer Hill and how everything is laid out. I wish I could have walked around and seen more of it.”

Scelzi, who was driving the Indy Race Parts No. 71 for Bernie Stuebgen, kicked off the Battle of the Groves opener by finishing fourth in a heat race on the half-mile oval.

“We hot lapped good, but missed it a bit in the heat race,” he said. “We changed some bars and moved some wheels. We made quite a few changes that helped tighten the car up. That saved our night.”

Scelzi rallied from seventh to third place in a qualifier to earn enough overall points to lock into the A Main.

“I was in sixth on the start of the qualifier and slid a couple of guys,” he said. “I could go wherever I wanted. At that point the track was the best it was all night.”

Scelzi started the main event on the inside of the sixth row.

“The track got cleaned off early in the race,” he said. “I was trying to make something happen on the top. I never got a restart where cars opened up for me. I kept getting held up on entrance and couldn’t run where I wanted to. The first half I was on the top going where the cars weren’t. By the end the rubber got so bad you had to be down there.”
