LATE ONROAK AUTOMOTIVE CHIEF DESIGNER ANDY SCRIVEN REMEMBERED DURING OPENING F4 U.S. EVENT

INDIANAPOLIS (May 7, 2018)- Dozens of people from around the United States gathered to honor the late Onroak Automotive North America chief designer Andrew “Andy” Scriven at a luncheon held during the inaugural Andy Scriven Memorial Race weekend at Virginia International Raceway April 27-29.

Scriven was instrumental in the establishment of the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda JS F4 16 chassis design and the creative innovator of the Ligier JS F3 Americas chassis. More than 35 F4 U.S. cars were adorned with a cowboy hat decal, inspired by Scriven’s signature style.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of affection for Andy and the support from those who attended this race,” said Max Crawford, Onroak Automotive North America General Manager and longtime friend of Scriven. ”I would also like to thank the SCCA for their recognition throughout the weekend of Andy’s contribution and for their generosity in accommodating our guests. I wish he had been here to witness the spectacle of the huge field that came down the hill to get the green flag. I’m sure he was watching from somewhere!”

Scriven began his career as a designer in 1984. He worked for Lola Cars, Penske Cars (UK) and Penske Racing (USA) before joining Crawford Race Cars as Chief Designer in 1999, and most recently for Onroak Automotive North America. In October 2017, Scriven was the victim of a serious traffic accident while riding his bike. He succumbed to complications that arose from his injuries two months later after fighting a courageous battle.

Scriven had a ready wit, a keen sense of humor, a unique fashion sense, was fond of pranks and had a compelling smile and laugh. He was a caring individual, a supportive friend, a creative and accomplished designer. He was also a cyclist and triathlete, a prolific reader, a Rotarian and he gave freely of his time to raise money for local charities and to better his community.

The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club created the “Race to Reading” program to memorialize Scriven and fulfill his vision of aiding children to gain access to books and develop an enthusiasm for reading. Donations to the program in honor of Scriven and his passion for reading and his community may be made to the Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation and sent to PO Box 1972, Denver, NC 28037 or by PayPal.

The Andy Scriven Memorial Race weekend will be an annual staple on the F4 U.S. schedule, held during the first event of the season.
