Giovanni Scelzi Makes Third Straight World of Outlaws A Main During Bakersfield Debut

Inside Line Promotions – BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (March 26, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi enjoyed his debut at Bakersfield Speedway last Saturday with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“There are two tracks in Bakersfield and I’d never been to this one,” he said. “It was a fun track.”

Scelzi guided the Paul Silva owned, Priority Aviation Services sponsored No. 57 sprint car to the ninth quickest qualifying time out of 37 drivers despite going out late.

“We went out really late, but timed in well,” he said. “Then we finished fourth in a heat race to lock into the main event.”

Scelzi, who advanced into his third straight A Main with the World of Outlaws, started the 35-lap feature on the inside of the seventh row.

“The track was really, really good,” he said. “It was slick to a cushion at both ends. I was riding around the position I started just trying to get going for the first half. It was really hard. There were a bunch of us all battling for about 10th through 15th. Then on a restart we went four wide and I got pushed into the fence and someone ran over me.”

Scelzi came to a stop on the backstretch following the contact just past the midpoint of the race. He restarted at the back of the field and picked up a handful of positions to finish 16th.

“It was so hectic with slide jobs, but it was a lot of fun,” he said. “Paul gave me a great car so I want to thank him as well as Richard and Jennifer Marshall for continuing to support us.”

The Ocean Outlaw Showdown at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., was rained out on Friday.

Scelzi is scheduled to return to the Silva No. 57 on April 20 at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., and April 21 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series.

He will pilot his family owned No. 41 this Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif.
