Giovanni Scelzi Learning Lap by Lap During World of Outlaws Starts

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (March 20, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi is soaking up everything he can in his limited starts with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Scelzi, who was piloting the Paul Silva owned, Priority Aviation Services sponsored No. 57 sprint car, made his fourth career start with the World of Outlaws last Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track during the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout.

“We didn’t time trial very good and didn’t make it to the main event through our heat race so we had to run the Last Chance Showdown, which was extra laps on the track for me,” he said.

Scelzi timed in ninth quickest in his group before a sixth-place finish in a heat race missed a lock-in position to the A Main by only one spot. However, Scelzi ended third in the Last Chance Showdown to garner a transfer into the back of the main event.

“Any time I can make the feature when we’re racing with the World of Outlaws is a success,” he said. “The competition is so tough and the margin for error is so slim that you really have to be as close to perfect as you can.”

Scelzi started 23rd and passed a few cars before he went down a lap to the leader.

“We got lapped and then had a caution so every car in front of me that I passed after that got put back in front of me on restarts,” he said. “The track was pretty treacherous so there wasn’t a reason for riding around and risk hitting a hole and tearing up equipment. I decided to pull off about halfway through the race.”

Scelzi was credited with a 19th-place finish after making the smart decision. Here is a link to watch the race: https://youtu.be/UN4yWuzW-9Y.

He is slated to compete this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., during the Ocean Outlaw Showdown and Saturday at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.

“Once again, a big thanks to Paul as well as Richard and Jennifer Marshall. I’m learning a ton each time I hit the track with the World of Outlaws thanks to the opportunity they’ve provided.”
