Scelzi Wrapping Up First Career Campaign With World Series Sprintcars This Weekend at Perth Motorplex

Inside Line Promotions – BUNBURY, West Australia, Australia (Feb. 19, 2018) – The final weekend of Dominic Scelzi’s trip to compete in Australia is here.

Scelzi and Wormall Motorsport will wrap up their World Series Sprintcars campaign this Saturday and Sunday at Perth Motorplex in Kwinana Beach, West Australia. Scelzi enters the weekend ranked 13th in the championship standing – only 100 points out of the top 10.

“Our goal is to finish the World Series Sprintcars season on a strong note,” he said. “Perth Motorplex has probably been our best track in Australia so I’m looking forward to racing there.”

Scelzi drove into the top five during his debut at the oval in December 2016 before a mechanical problem resulted in a DNF. However, he placed third, third and second, respectively, during three more races at the oval in late 2016 and early 2017.

This weekend will be Scelzi’s first visit since his career-best second-place result in Australia on Jan. 1, 2017.

Scelzi had a promising run stymied by weather last Friday at Attwell Park Speedway in Albany, West Australia, Australia. He qualified ninth quickest and finished fourth in his first heat race after starting seventh. Scelzi then missed a crash in the second heat race that would have restarted him fourth, but rain washed out the remainder of the night.

“We had set ourselves up really well and if we had been able to just maintain in that second heat race we would have been in a great position for the A Main,” he said. “Mother Nature had other plans and ended the night for us, which was frustrating with how well everything was going for us.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Quit Bunbury Speedway, where Scelzi timed in ninth quickest in qualifying, placed seventh and ninth, respectively, in heat races and ended 16th in the main event.

“Last weekend wasn’t in our favor, but that’s behind us and we’re really excited about this weekend in Perth,” he said. “The Wormall Motorsport team works so hard and deserves a great weekend so I hope we can all produce that this weekend.”
