Honda Performance Development Announces New Civic Racing Products
• Civic Spec Series concept race car debuts at PRI Show
• Fiberglass Civic bodywork available for Touring, GT and drag racing
• Latest additions to growing line of HPD grassroots racing products

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 7, 2017) – Continuing the strong racing momentum during 2017 for the new Honda Civic racing platform, Honda Performance Development (HPD) is pleased to announce the debut of the Civic Spec Series Concept Race Car, and the availability of fiberglass Civic bodywork for touring car and drag racing customers. Unveiled at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show today, these products create additional opportunities to utilize the modern, highly capable and aerodynamic Civic in other racing series.

Fresh from its race-winning debut year in the Pirelli World Challenge, the Civic highlights its versatility as a racing platform with announcement of the Civic Spec Series Concept, an ideal way to control costs while providing a great racing experience. The concept race car is being displayed at PRI to generate customer interest and input on performance parts, build options and potential racing series in which it might participate. SCCA Pro Racing is joining HPD in soliciting input to determine how such a series might run under SCCA’s sanctioning structure.
As with HPD’s other Civic touring car race cars, the Spec Civic race car could be built from the HPD Civic Body-in-White, which debuted at the 2016 SEMA show, or start with a Civic Si production vehicle. HPD plans to offer performance parts to assist in building the car, as well as technical support and documentation through its HPD Racing Line program. The concept vehicle features many of the same racing parts used in the TCA class of the Pirelli World Challenge, as well as the T4 and T3 Touring classes in SCCA Club racing.
For competitors who want to race a Civic in classes that don’t require strict adherence to OEM specifications, HPD will be offering fiberglass Civic “GT” bodywork that can be joined to a tube-frame chassis for these customers. Whether it’s building a Civic drag racer or an SCCA GT class touring car, the fiberglass bodywork is specifically licensed and manufactured for HPD. The bodywork will include front and rear clips, doors, trunk, and roof. Items can be purchased as a complete kit or separately. More information on these parts is available at hpd.honda.com/racing-line and HPD anticipates availability in Spring, 2018.
“Since its launch, the current Civic Si has continued the legacy of racing success and performance for our customers,” said HPD Commercial Motorsports Manager Jeff Barrow. “We’re committed to providing the best Honda racing products to our Racing Line customers, and our in-house Honda Racing engineers ensure that they are developed, tested, and supported more extensively than any other available products. We’re pleased to expand our Civic offerings to Racing Line members to include these new products, and can’t wait to see them in competition.”
Both the Civic Spec Series Concept Race Car and the fiberglass Civic bodywork for racing applications are on display this week at the Honda Racing/HPD booth [#5157] at the Performance Racing Industry Show. The PRI Show runs through Saturday, December 9, at the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN.
