Giovanni Scelzi Teaming Up With BDS Motorsports for Midwest Doubleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Aug. 15, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi is returning to the Midwest this weekend to drive for Bryan Sundby.

Scelzi and the BDS Motorsports team will compete on Saturday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, with the Sprint Invaders and on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. It will be Scelzi’s debut at both tracks.

“I’ve known Bryan for a few years and we work really well together,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to this weekend. It’ll be nice to get on tracks that are big and slick. I think slicker tracks fit my driving style.”

Scelzi scored a pair of second-place finishes in July when he made his debut with BDS Motorsports during the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“Running second both nights and feeling like we should have won, it was great to be that fast out of the gate and it gives me confidence going into this weekend,” he said.

Scelzi piloted a sprint car for Roth Motorsports last Saturday at Ocean Speedway. He qualified 12th quickest and won a heat race after starting on the pole. That earned a spot in the dash, in which a seventh-place result lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“It was a 50-lap feature and we had a stop around halfway,” he said. “I was running sixth and felt like I was starting to get in a rhythm. We put new tires on and changed a couple of things and it was a completely different car the rest of the race. From that point on I was hanging on.”

Scelzi capped the night with a 12th-place result
