Michael Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3s Seek More Success at Road America
• Tight battle for championship continues with four races remaining
• Recent results move Acura, drivers and MSR into championship contention
• Four consecutive top-five finishes include victories at Detroit and Watkins Glen

TORRANCE, Calif. (August 1, 2017) – On the strength of two class victories, a second and a fifth in the last four races, Michael Shank Racing brings its pair of Acura NSX GT3s to Road America for this weekend’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase in the thick of the battle for the GTD Manufacturers’ Championship.

Heading into the ninth round of the 12-race WeatherTech championship, Acura now lies third in the GTD Manufacturers’ Championship, just six points out of first place and three points out of second. In addition, both the MSR team and drivers of the #93 MSR Acura, Andy Lally and Katherine Legge, are also ranked third in their respective championships, six points out of second and 23 points away from the lead.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress and success of the NSX GT3,” said Art St. Cyr, President of Honda Performance Development. “To have a pair of victories and be in contention for the IMSA GTD championship at this stage of our inaugural season meets all of the goals we set for the program, in advance of our just-announced worldwide customer sales program for the car. We feel like the NSX GT3 is really coming into its own as we enter the home stretch of the season at Road America.”

Lally and Legge scored the first of those wins, and the first for the Acura NSX GT3 in international sports car competition, in June at the Detroit Grand Prix. The pair scored a second-consecutive GTD victory aboard their #93 Acura just four weeks later at Watkins Glen, followed by a second-place result July 9 in Canada and a fifth-place finish two weeks ago at Lime Rock Park.

Also at Lime Rock, the second MSR Acura of Jeff Segal and Oswaldo “Ozz” Negri survived late-race contact to finish ninth, after running as high as third. Segal and Negri’s #86 NSX GT3 also featured at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, qualifying third and running second in the race until it fell victim to contact from another competitor, dropping it to an unrepresentative 10th-place result.

Competing in GTD, the Acura NSX GT3s race against premium automotive brands including Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. The Acura NSX GT3 adds to a rich legacy of Acura sports car racing championships, including the 1991, 1992 and 1993 IMSA Camel Lights manufacturer and driver championships, and the 2009 American Le Mans Series manufacturer, driver and team championships in both the LMP1 and LMP2 classes.

The Continental Tire Road Race Showcase starts at 2:30 p.m. EDT Sunday, August 6, with live television coverage on Fox Sports 1. Live coverage also can be found the Fox Sports Go app and at www.imsa.com.
