Giovanni Scelzi Earns Podium at Keller Auto Speedway to Remain in KWS-NARC Championship Hunt

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (July 5, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi produced his eighth podium of the season last Saturday during a King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event at Keller Auto Speedway.

The third-place finish brought Scelzi and the Roth Motorsports team within one point of the lead in the championship standings with only a half dozen races remaining this season.

The night began with Scelzi qualifying second quickest at the bullring in Hanford, Calif. He then advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race before finishing fifth in the dash. That lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“The track had a huge curb on it at the edge of the track,” he said. “We ran the bottom most of the race. I got up to second, but just couldn’t do anything with the leader. At the end we faded a bit and Cory Eliason got me on the top for second.”

Scelzi’s third-place result gives him five consecutive weekends with at least one top-five finish. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/wliKx0uNj4Y.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track during a Sprint Car Challenge Tour event, where Scelzi qualified eighth quickest overall and fifth in his group. He then maneuvered from fifth to third place in a heat race to lock into the 12th starting position for the main event.

“We had three reds before we got a lap in,” he said. “It was like no one could make a lap without running into each other. Once we got going and ran a couple of laps a guy spun out in front of me when I was running around 12 th. I smashed into him and then I got hit. That ended the night.”
