Giovanni Scelzi Nets Top Five at Calistoga During Debut on Half-Mile Track

Inside Line Promotions – CALISTOGA, Calif. (June 28, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi captured a top-five finish in his first career sprint car race on a half-mile track last Saturday during his debut at Calistoga Speedway.

Scelzi opened the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event by qualifying fourth quickest in his Roth Motorsports ride. He then advanced from third to second place in a heat race before ending ninth in the dash.

“That was a lot of fun being on a half mile,” he said. “We time trialed better than I thought we would and got going in the heat race. We passed a few cars in the main event. The more laps I made the more comfortable I got. At the end we were racing with Cory Eliason and got him for fifth with a couple of laps to go.”

Scelzi placed fifth, which was his 11th top five this season. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/fZScmFPU0kY.

The weekend began the previous night at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., where Scelzi timed in fifth quickest to start the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event. He placed third in a heat race and fourth in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“It was a night of not being comfortable,” he said. “The track didn’t suit me and we struggled a bit. I’d been there twice before that. It’s a really flat track and hard to get used to. I got going at the end, but wasn’t very comfortable at all.”

Scelzi hung on for a ninth-place result. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/RgSf3qZAeW0.

“I want to say thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth for the opportunity and support as well as my crew for their dedication and hard work,” he said.

Scelzi enters the next series event – this Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif. – ranked second in the championship standings by only five points. The weekend will conclude on Sunday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
