Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (June 19, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi produced a pair of top fives last weekend to give him 10 top-five finishes in 16 races this season.

Scelzi and Roth Motorsports kicked off the weekend on Friday during the David Tarter Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., where the team set quick time during qualifying. Scelzi then advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race before maneuvering from fourth to third place in the dash. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“We were fast all night,” he said. “Kyle Hirst is one of the best guys in Chico. I ran second for the first eight or nine laps and then he got by me. A lapped car took the leader out so we both moved up a position. Kyle made a mistake and I got back by him with 10 or 15 laps to go then we hit a wall of traffic. I went to the top when I should have gone to the bottom and he got back by.”

Scelzi maintained second place for the remainder of the race. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/bsVA5O30D8A.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with a King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event at Petaluma Speedway. Once again, Scelzi established quick time during qualifying. It was the fourth time in eight series races this season that Scelzi has timed in quickest.

“It’s a huge confidence booster,” he said. “The equipment and the motors are so good it makes qualifying an easy part of the night. As long as you make smooth laps you know you’ll be in the top three or four spots.”

Scelzi then finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race, which was one spot shy of making the dash.

“It’s a difficult format because you invert four and the top three go to the dash,” he said. “I couldn’t get around Bud Kaeding for third in the heat. That started us 10th in the main event.

“We started too far back to get going anywhere. I was up to third at one point. I threw a slider on Jamie Veal, but couldn’t make it stick and then Cory Eliason got me at the end.”

Scelzi ended fifth. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/FUaNUeph-tc.

He and the Roth Motorsports team are slated to race this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., and Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.
