Newgarden Paces Team Chevy in opening Dual in Detroit

DETROIT (June 3, 2017) – Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden led the Team Chevy contingent Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the first of two Dual in Detroit rounds for the Verizon IndyCar Series on Belle Isle.

Newgarden, in the No. 2 hum by Verizon Chevrolet IndyCar, rebounded from a ninth-place starting position in the 70-lap race – part of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear event weekend. The second Dual in Detroit race is scheduled for 3:50 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Chevrolet IndyCar drivers capture three top-10 positions Saturday. Helio Castroneves in the Team Penske No. 3 Hitachi Chevrolet IndyCar led 11 of the 70 laps and finished seventh. Ed Carpenter Racing’s JR Hildebrand finished 10th in the No. 21 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevy IndyCar.
