Scelzi Earns First Podium of Season at Silver Dollar Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 8, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi posted his first podium finish of the season last Friday at Silver Dollar Speedway to kick off a doubleheader at the quarter-mile oval.

Scelzi guided his Roth Motorsports backed, family owned team to a 13 th-place result in qualifying before finishing fifth in a heat race to lock into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“We struggled in qualifying and didn’t time in very well,” he said. “We were average in the heat race. We made quite a few changes before the feature and were able to move forward. The track was extremely slick and the cushion was on the edge of the track. You could slide guys pretty easily. A lot of times the car in front of me would try to slide someone in front of them and I’d get a run. It was all about good timing. That was a big boost of confidence to move forward like that.”

Scelzi picked up 10 positions en route to the third-place finish, which was his second straight top five at the track. It also earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/jCnIAVSNj2k.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway for the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series. Scelzi timed in 15th quickest overall out of 37 competitors, which caught the heat race inversion and gave Scelzi the pole position for a heat.

“We won the heat race, which was big because it locked us into the dash,” he said. “We started 11th and battled for seventh and eighth before ending ninth.”

The strong dash performance lined Scelzi up on the inside of the fifth row for the 40-lap main event.

“I basically ran there for the first 10 laps before we got a flat tire,” he said. “We came into the work area and changed the right front. We restarted around 20th and we made our way back up to ninth within 10 or 15 laps. I was going where the guys in front of me weren’t. Then after a restart around Lap 27 we were getting under a car in turn three and made contact and folded the front end.”

Scelzi had rebounded back into the top 10 before the crash just after the midpoint of the main event ended his night early with a 13th -place result. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/rR32HihkyBU.

“I think we gained on it a little bit last weekend,” he said. “I think the biggest thing is moving forward. Third place is great, but we show up to win every night. I think that was a small part of the big picture. We’ll keep working to better that third-place run and get more of them.”

Scelzi will return to action this Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he will drive for Nick McColloch before piloting his family owned car on Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series.
