Team Marathon Petroleum Race Preview: NHRA Southern Nationals

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (May 2, 2017) – Allen Johnson took home the win at Atlanta Dragway fifteen years ago in 2002 and he can’t think of a better time to bring his Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart all the way to the winner circle once again.

The 37th annual NHRA Southern Nationals is the seventh of 24 races in the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series and as of the last two races, Johnson has found some major performance gains in their engine department.

“We made some serious gains in Houston and Charlotte and I’m looking forward to going to this final race in the three-in-a-row to see what’ll happen,” Johnson said. “We’re not 100% there yet but if I had one word for last weekend in Charlotte, it’d be progress.”

Qualifying for the 37th annual NHRA Southern Nationals will be held on Friday, May 5th, at 4:15 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. Two more sessions will be on Saturday, May 6th, at 1:15 and 3:45 p.m. Eliminations begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 7th.
