Scelzi Caps Weekend With Top-Five Finish at Adobe Cup

Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi earned his seventh top five of the season last Saturday during the Adobe Cup at Petaluma Speedway.

Scelzi, who was driving for the Van Lare Family, opened the action by advancing from seventh to fourth place in a heat race.

“We drew a 70 something so that put us starting seventh in the third heat race,” he said. “We drove it up to fourth, which put us seventh in points. Because they locked in four cars from previous races that put us 11th overall.”

The heat race result locked Scelzi into the 11th starting position for the main event.

“We thought the track would stay hooked up and fast, but it slicked off,” he said. “The key was staying out of trouble. I tried to make smart decisions and take the opportunities that were available. I want to thank the Van Lare Family for the opportunity and for giving me a good car. I was really happy we earned another top five.”

The weekend kicked off the night before at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., where Scelzi piloted his family owned sprint car during the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series event.

He qualified 15th quickest and advanced a position to finish fourth in a heat race, which locked Scelzi into the 15th starting position for the feature.

“We tried a bunch of stuff with our car and it absolutely didn’t work,” he said. “For the main event we went back to something that we knew and were able to be fast. The race went pretty much nonstop from Lap 1 to 20 something. We worked our way up into the top 10 with a couple of guys right in front of us. Going down the backstretch with a few laps to go the guy in front of us went right and we had nowhere to go.”
