Will Power Puts Chevy in Victory Lane of Rain-Delay Pocono Race
2014 Verizon IndyCar Series Champion Captures 4th Win of Season; Closes Gap on Championship

LONG POND, Penn (August 22, 2016) – Will Power took the lead for the final time on lap 165 of the rain-delayed 200-lap ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway and went on to capture his fourth win of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season. Power, the 2014 Series’ champion, took his No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet to the checkered flag 1.1459 seconds over pole-winner Mikail Aleshin to score the 29th win of his career.

This victory is the sixth consecutive race that Power has finished either first or second. The win pulled Power, who started eighth in the field of 22 cars, within 20 points of teammate Simon Pagenaud, No. 22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet, with three races remaining in the season. In total, Chevrolet drivers hold the top-six in the standings. And seven of the top-10.

“The team adjusted on the car a bit until it was awesome at the end and I was very good in traffic” said Power. “I just have to thank Verizon and for all the access they give the fans. I also want to thank Chevrolet. The Chevy engine was awesome today and the body kit was obviously also awesome. So you know it was a very good comeback and I am very happy to win here. I love winning 500-mile races and this is one of the toughest ovals that we race on. I am just really happy for Verizon and the whole team.”

Josef Newgarden, No. 21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet, finished fourth, and Sebastien Bourdais, No. 11 Team Hydroxycut KVSH Racing Chevrolet, finished fifth to give the Chevrolet Aero Kit with integrated 2.2 liter V6 engine three of the top-five finishers in today’s 500-mile race.

In total, Chevrolet drivers delivered six of the top-nine finishers. Scott Dixon finished sixth behind the wheel of the No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet. Juan Pablo Montoya brought the No. 2 hum by Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet to the finish in eighth followed by Tony Kanaan, No. 10 NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet in the ninth finishing position.

Other Chevrolet finishers are Max Chilton, No. 8 Gallagher Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet – 13th and Charlie Kimball, No. 83 Tresiba Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet – 15th.

Points leader Pagenaud was relegated to the 18th finishing position after being sidelined in a single car incident on lap 157 of the race. Helio Castroneves, No. 3 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet, retired from competition and was scored 19th after being involved in a three-car incident on pit lane on the 63rd lap. Ed Carpenter, No. 20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet finished 21st with mechanical issues on the 57th lap.
