Red Horse Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway

This week, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams journeyed to the mountains of Tennessee for a midweek showdown at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday evening. During two practices on the half-mile bullring on Wednesday morning, Brett Moffitt was 12th-fastest in the first and second-fastest in final practice in the No. 11 BrainGear/Surface Sunscreen Toyota Tundra, while Timothy Peters was second and 22nd fastest in the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra. Wednesday afternoon, three rounds of knockout group qualifying set the field for the UNOH 200. Moffitt transferred to the third round to secure the eighth starting position, and Peters began the 200-lap event in 25th place. After the race was delayed for an hour by summer storms, Moffitt battled in the final laps for the win and finished a career-best second place, and Peters finished in the 13th position.

Brett Moffitt Improves Career-Best with Second-Place at Bristol Motor Speedway

Brett Moffitt earned his second top-three finish in two races and improved his best career finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with a second-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday night. The 24-year-old Iowa native posted the 12th and second-fastest times respectively in two practice sessions on Wednesday morning. Later in the day, Moffitt transferred to the third and final round of knockout group qualifying to earn the eighth starting position for the 200-lap event in the No. 11 BrainGear/Surface Sunscreen Toyota Tundra. Summer showers delayed the start of the UNOH 200 by a little over an hour, and the green flag fell just after 9:30 p.m. Moffitt quickly moved into the top-five by lap 50, and reported that he was experiencing a tight handling condition in his Tundra. Crew chief Scott Zipadelli opted to have Moffitt stay out for several cautions early in the race to preserve track position because of threatening weather. Zipadelli brought him to pit road from third under caution on lap 137 for four fresh Goodyear tires, Sunoco fuel and an air pressure adjustment and Moffitt restarted in the sixth position with 57 laps to go. Moffitt worked his way back to the second position and was battling for the lead when a caution flag slowed the field. Moffitt restarted on the outside of the front row with just five circuits left and nearly picked up his first NCWTS win, but recorded a career-best second place finish.

Brett Moffitt Quotes:
“I’m really excited heading into Michigan. We’re taking the same truck that we ran at Kentucky and then again at Pocono and they actually did some more to work it, so hopefully it’s even better. I think we are showing really strong and got a third-place and a second-place here. We just need one more, so that’d be a good place to win and hopefully then at the road course as well.”

Did you consider bumping for the win?
“I’m going to race people the way I want to be raced. It is Bristol, so if you need to move someone, you’ve got to move them and I just wasn’t quite good enough through the center to get to him. He slipped up a few times and I was able to get to his bumper once, but didn’t get to him hard enough and I was really waiting for him to make a mistake so I could shove my nose in there, but he was – he executed when he needed to and he hit his marks and I just wasn’t able to get to him there.”

Timothy Peters Finishes 13th in Tough Race at Bristol Motor Speedway

At the conclusion of 200 unpredictable laps at Bristol Motor Speedway in the UNOH 200, Timothy Peters took the checkered flag in the 13th position in his No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra. The result keeps Peters in the eighth, and final position, to make the inaugural Chase for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) championship. Peters posted the third-fastest lap in the opening practice session and clocked in 22nd in the final session. A qualifying lap of 15.33 seconds in qualifying placed him 25th on the starting grid, but the 2012 Bristol winner methodically picked his way through the field, with the aid of crew chief Shane Huffman. Peters was called to pit road at lap 33 under caution for four tires and adjustments to help a loose condition on entry. When the competition caution was thrown nine laps later, Peters took fuel only, and the exchange netted him eight positions to move him up to 13th. Just past the halfway point, Peters cracked the top-10 on lap 112, and worked his way into contention. The Danville, Virginia native’s handling became tight, and he made his final trek to pit road under the lap 135 caution for four tires, fuel, and air pressure changes. Peters fought valiantly on numerous occasions on the outside lane with a tight Toyota Tundra and finished 13th in his 12th start at the “World’s Fastest Half Mile.”

Timothy Peters Quote:
“”Everybody on our Red Horse Racing team worked extremely hard today. We were behind after qualifying and Shane (Huffman) made a good strategy call to buy us a few positions early in the race, and my Tundra was good enough to get us into the top 10. We had so many restarts after our last pit stop that it made it difficult to keep moving forward when we lined up on the outside so often. The result isn’t what we wanted, but we’ll load up and go to Michigan next week.”
