Allen Johnson Running His Own Race Going into Raceday at Northwest Nationals

SEATTLE, Wash. (August 6, 2016) – In the final race of the Western Swing, Allen Johnson and his Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing team qualified No. 5 at Pacific Raceways at the 29th annual Protect The Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

On Friday, Johnson opened up qualifying with a 6.601-second pass at 208.55 mph. Johnson came back in the evening qualifying session and clocked in with an improved 6.594, 209.43 in his Dodge Dart.

For Saturday’s first session, there was cloud cover and low temperatures – something the NHRA tour hasn’t seen in some months. Capitalizing on the conditions, the Adam Hornberger-tuned Pro Stock entry ran a stout 6.564, 210.08. Johnson closed out qualifying at the Northwest Nationals with a 6.550, 211.06.

No. 5 Johnson powered himself to the top half of the field and will have lance choice over fellow Dodge Pro Stock driver No. 12 Deric Kramer.

“Deric can cut a light and run well so we can’t take them lightly,” Johnson acknowledged. “I gotta go up there and race myself regardless if it’s Jason Line, Deric Kramer, or whoever and that’s what I do. I race myself and my boys give me a great car to race. We went up there and ran well in Q4 so we just gotta be consistent and keep that lane choice.”

Eliminations at the 29th annual Protect The Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil will begin at 11:00 am starting with Top Fuel.
