Brett Moffitt Earns Best Career NCWTS Finish at Pocono Raceway

Brett Moffitt earned his best finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Saturday at Pocono Raceway with a third-place finish. In two practice sessions at the 2.5-mile superspeedway on Friday, Moffitt posted the 14th and 13th fastest times in the red and black No. 11. On Saturday morning, qualifying was cancelled due to inclement weather and the field was set per the NASCAR Rule Book, with Moffitt rolling off in the 15th position for the 60-lap event. In an event marred by a record nine cautions, Moffitt visited pit road for service from crew chief Scott Zipadelli and team twice, getting four fresh Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel each time, once on lap 14, and once on lap 30. Early in the race, Moffitt reported that he was battling a slight loose handling condition in his Toyota Tundra, but he was soon working his way toward the front of the field. With 15 laps to go, Moffitt restarted in ninth, and after several cautions, he crossed the finish line in third, his best NCWTS finish to date.

Brett Moffitt Quotes:
“A lot of it was being patiently aggressive. Our strategy had us in the back a lot for the majority of the race and we kind of had to work our way back up past older tires every time it would cycle through. We had to be careful, but all in all the guys at Red Horse (Racing) did a great job. It was a complete 180 from yesterday. We were struggling and I wasn’t sure our truck was going to be that good today. We didn’t make a single adjustment on it during the race so we really had a great truck. Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) called a great race, great strategy and got us up front when it mattered.”

Timothy Peters Earns Fourth-Place Finish at Pocono Raceway

In his sixth start at Pocono Raceway, Timothy Peters notched his best-career result at the 2.5-mile speedway by posting a fourth-place finish. Peters started the weekend in impressive fashion, putting his No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra second on the scoring pylon in the weekend’s opening practice and 16th in final practice. That effort earned Peters the seventh starting position on the starting grid after Saturday morning’s qualifying session was cancelled due to weather. From the outset of the 60-lap affair, Peters wasted no time in getting to the front, and made a four-wide move on the opening lap to advance to third. Crew chief Shane Huffman employed an aggressive fuel strategy, bringing Peters to pit road for right side tires and a track bar adjustment under caution on lap 14. Peters restarted ninth on lap 16 and made his way to the race lead on lap 28. Two laps later, he came to pit road under caution for his second, and final, stop of the race for four tires and fuel. Peters took full advantage of the wild restarts Pocono has become famous for, avoided a bevy of incidents, and returned to the top five on lap 45. He raced inside the top five for the balance of the event, and brought his Toyota Tundra home fourth, his third top-five and eighth top-10 finish of the 2016 season.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“My Red Horse (Racing) Tundra was really good all day. We were trying to bank on strategy and our truck as good as it was to get track position when those other guys had to come in to pit but more cautions came out than what we anticipated. All in all, it was a great race for us here at Pocono. It was my best finish here in six years so we’ll keep building on this momentum. We’ve been consistent across the board. This puts us above the plus line a little bit better. Just everyone involved – TRD (Toyota Racing Development), Toyota, Notch Gear, Wiley X just can’t thank everybody enough.”
