CORVETTE DPs IN CANADA: Riding Race-Winning Momentum
Two straight victories and Prototype Engine Manufacturer Championship lead

· Wayne Taylor Racing seeks to repeat 2015 Canadian Tire Motorsport Park win

· Action Express Racing coming off 1-2 finish at Watkins Glen

· Barbosa, Fittipaldi enter holding Driver’s Championship lead

DETROIT (July 7, 2016) – If momentum means anything in racing, then Chevrolet’s Corvette Daytona Prototype program has it in bucket loads at the moment. The four Corvette DP teams in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship head to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for this weekend’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance – the second of back-to-back race weekends to start the inward half of the 2016 season.

The quartet will look for a second straight 1-2 finish at the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course that sits about an hour east of Toronto. Wayne Taylor Racing’s Jordan and Ricky Taylor won a thriller last year in their No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP over Eric Curran, Dane Cameron and their Action Express Racing No. 31 Whelen Engineering/Team Fox Corvette DP.

Corvette DPs also finished first and second in last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, as Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi led a 1-2 finish for Action Express Racing in their No. 5 Mustang Sampling Corvette DP. Their first victory of the season moved them back into the Prototype Driver’s Championship lead after six events. The pairing has won the last two Driver’s titles – 2014 and 2015.

Their win also increased Chevrolet’s lead in the Prototype Engine Manufacturer Championship to four points over second-place Honda. Chevy is seeking its fifth consecutive points title in the category.

Cameron and Curran were second at The Glen to move into a second-place tie in points with the Taylors in the Driver’s standings. All four drivers are seven points out of the championship lead.

Marc Goossens, driver for Visit Florida Racing, is third in Driver’s points in the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype. He and Ryan Dalziel were among the group of Corvette DPs that lead last weekend’s race at Watkins Glen.

The Corvette DP bodywork reflects the Corvette C7 production lineup. At the heart of the Corvette Daytona Prototype is a purpose-built 5.5-liter Chevrolet LS9 V-8 engine developed by ECR Engines.

The two-hour, 40-minute Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix presented by Hawk Performance is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. ET on Sunday, July 10. It will air live on FOX Sports 1 starting at 11 a.m. ET with IMSA Radio coverage and Chevrolet on-board cameras available on IMSA.com.

JOAO BARBOSA, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 5 MUSTANG SAMPLING CORVETTE DP: “We’re hoping to have the pace we had last year. We were leading the race and then the flat tire happened with just a handful of laps remaining. So, we were unable to get any positions back before the race ended. We look forward to returning to Canada and following our strong performance last weekend at Watkins Glen with another good race weekend.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, WAYNE TAYLOR RACING NO. 10 KONICA MINOLTA CORVETTE DP: “Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is an awesome place – a very high speed, old-school track that’s really challenging and rewarding for the driver. We didn’t expect to win last year’s race because we didn’t have the fastest car. We ran our own race and we didn’t have any problems. Hopefully, we’ll be a little faster this year. It’s an intense race, and track position is important, so I think qualifying will be one of the keys to winning this race.”

DANE CAMERON, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 31 WHELEN ENGINEERING/TEAM FOX CORVETTE DP: “It’s one of my favorite race tracks. I’ve been there a number of times in a number of different race cars, and always seem to do well at the track. I haven’t won there yet, but I’ve been on the podium a number of times. Eric (Curran) and I had a really strong run there last year, but came up a little short. I’m confident we can go back there and challenge for a win.”

RYAN DALZIEL, VISIT FLORIDA RACING NO. 90 VISITFLORIDA.COM CORVETTE DP: “I’m a big fan of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. It is nice going there knowing we’re going to have a good Visit Florida car. I think that a lot of what we learned at the Glen will help us there. The tracks are both high-speed and quite similar. We feel good. To me, the car was really good in the race at the Glen and it got better as the race went on. We’re a little disappointed after the Glen and excited to get going with the rest of the season.”

JIM LUTZ, CORVETTE DAYTONA PROTOTYPE PROGRAM MANAGER: “Canadian Tire Motorsport Park represents another challenge for our Corvette Daytona Prototype teams. The fast and flowing nature of the circuit should favor the lighter P2 cars but there are some places where our Corvette DP engine can give us a bit of an advantage. There is a tremendous amount of momentum in the Chevrolet camp following the results from Watkins Glen. We are eager to keep that going.”
