Sebastian Eriksson, Honda Capture Two Podium Finishes

• Sebastian Eriksson Captures Two Thirds in Daytona doubleheader
• Third Red Bull Global Rallycross Podium for the Manufacturer
• Four Consecutive Top-Five Finish Streak Continues to North Carolina

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 19, 2016) – In Honda’s first visit to Daytona International Speedway since its January triumph in the Rolex 24, Olsbergs MSE driver Sebastian Eriksson claimed two podium results in the Red Bull Global Rallycross season’s second doubleheader weekend. These marked Honda’s third podium results of 2016.

After enduring multiple severe weather delays on Saturday, the Honda Red Bull OMSE Civic Coupe team of Joni Wiman and Eriksson survived a drama-filled Final, with Eriksson finishing in third place and Wiman in fourth. With other manufacturers struggling to cope with the Florida heat, the result from Eriksson gave Honda its second podium finish in its inaugural Red Bull GRC season.

As the action unfolded on Sunday, the OMSE drivers continued to tame the .742-mile, 12-turn asphalt and dirt circuit. The Honda Civic’s turbocharged power plant enabled aggressive starts, coupled with precision and consistency in the ultra-fast dirt complex. The teammates advanced to the 10-lap Final by way of second-place finishes in the semifinal races.

In the Final, Eriksson started on the outside of the front row, while Wiman had the inside line on the second row going into the iconic Daytona road course hairpin turn. Eriksson muscled his way into third place, with Wiman closely behind in fifth before a red flag was displayed for contact between Scott Speed and Austin Dyne. The red flag necessitated in a complete restart with only nine cars remaining in the field.

On the restart, Eriksson and Wiman dove into Turn One in third and fourth places, respectively. The teammates battled hard for the final podium spot, with Eriksson managing to hold on for third, claiming a double-podium finish on the weekend which authenticated the speed and durability of the brand new Civic Coupe. Wiman followed closely in fourth.

The series now heads up the coast to Jacksonville, N.C. for Rounds Six and Seven of the 2016 season. Television coverage begins on Sunday, July 3 at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC, with live streaming coverage on Red Bull TV starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Sebastian Eriksson (No. 93 Red Bull Honda OMSE) on the weekend performance: “Being on the podium back-to-back here in Daytona is absolutely awesome. Battling the elements on Saturday and surviving the carnage for third, and then battling hard today with my teammate was unreal. Two completely different scenarios, and to end up on the podium both times is incredible. The team gave us a great Civic and we were able to battle our way up to the front. I’m looking forward to North Carolina and visiting the troops. Hope we put on a good show for them!”

Joni Wiman (No. 31 Red Bull Honda OMSE): “It was a tough weekend for me. We endured so much this weekend and I’m glad we’re able to bring home a top-five finish for the OMSE guys [team] and for Honda. I’m just ready to get to North Carolina and to bounce back.”
