Honda Global Rallycross Civics Debut at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 16, 2016) – Honda visits the historic Daytona International Speedway for the first time since the manufacturer triumphed in January’s Rolex 24. Honda returns to the track with Olsbergs MSE in the all-new turbocharged Civic Coupe for rounds four and five of the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross season.

Drivers Joni Wiman and Sebastian Eriksson will look to tame the .742-mile, 12-turn, 75.2% paved, 24.8% dirt circuit in this weekends double-header event. 2016 marks the third year Red Bull GRC is competing on the legendary Daytona road course.

Eriksson scored his first Red Bull GRC win at Daytona last year, and he hopes to repeat that feat in the all-new Red Bull Honda Civic. The teammates will have two opportunities to deliver Honda its first victory this season, in the second of four doubleheader weekends on the 2016 calendar.

“For us, racing at Daytona is really cool because of the history of the track,” said Eriksson. “To defend my first victory in Red Bull GRC in the Honda Civic would be special. The team has worked really hard coming into this weekend and we expect to be up at the front and running hard all weekend long.”

“Our Honda Civic is good through the dirt and great through the technical sections, which will be key for turns 9-12. It’s so fast but yet really tough because you have to get the car on the right line or else you won’t get a good run on the straightaway going into turn one,” said Wiman. “Delivering a great result not only for our team [Olsbergs MSE] but for Honda would be amazing. We get two chances to make our mark and come back in the points championship, so I’m excited.”

After capturing Honda’s first podium in Red Bull GRC at Phoenix, Olsbergs MSE collected a top-five finish in Dallas with Wiman, placing Honda third in the season long manufacturers championship.
