Pro Stock Champ Allen Johnson on Home Turf for Father’s Day in Bristol

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (June 15, 2016) – Marathon Petroleum Corporation/J&J Racing Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson heads to Bristol Dragway this weekend for the 16th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. Johnson hopes that being at his home track will be the edge he needs in order to bring home his first win of 2016.

This weekend’s race is very special to the Johnson family because raceday falls on Father’s Day. Roy and Allen Johnson have been a massive part of Bristol Dragway’s history since Roy started racing back in the 1970’s. In 2010, Roy came out of driving retirement after 30 years when he brought out his Mopar Challenger Drag Pak at Bristol; he qualified No. 1 in Stock Eliminator and advanced to the semifinals at the event.

“Bristol is everything to us,” Allen Johnson said. “It’s where we grew up. We love this race because we get to entertain our friends, family and employees that allow us to do this. That’s the biggest thing. We go out there and share all of this with them.”

Johnson advanced to the final round in 2012 but has yet to bring home the win at his home track in the Pro Stock class. To be the last man standing at the end of the day on Father’s Day this weekend would be the icing on the cake for Johnson; his dad Roy has been working alongside him since they started racing in Pro Stock in 1996.

“It’d be awesome to give the win as a present to my dad for Father’s Day,” he said.
