Allen Johnson Embarks on his 465th Raceday Start at NHRA New England Nationals

EPPING, N.H. (June 4, 2016) – Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson arrived at the Northeastern New England Dragway this weekend with some serious momentum on his side. His continued consistency has made him a major threat to the competition and his Marathon Petroleum Corporation/J&J Racing Dodge Dart team is the top contender to take out the current leaders of the class, KB Racing.

Friday’s first session for the Marathon Petroleum Corporation/J&J Racing team resulted in a 6.635-second pass at 209.46 mph. Johnson came back in Friday’s night session and bettered his positioning with a stout 6.593, 209.20.

On Saturday’s early afternoon session, Johnson clocked in with a 6.637, 208.88 and although it was slower, it was to be expected due to the hotter track temperatures. In the final qualifying round, Johnson pulled the chutes at the finish line and ran a 6.643, 208.04.

“The car didn’t run as well as we wanted today,” Johnson confessed. “We just gotta fix the tune-up and we’ll be okay. We’re leaving two or three thousandths on the table right now but my Marathon Petroleum guys always pull through on raceday with the tune-up.”

Johnson qualified in the No. 6 spot and will have lane choice over No. 9 Chris McGaha in the first round of eliminations on Sunday morning.

“We just gotta race ourselves,” he said. “I always just race myself so it doesn’t matter who we’re racing on raceday; we race our lane and hope to turn on four win lights on Sunday.”
