MADISON, Ill., September 27, 2015 – The 4th annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals marked the second race of six in the 2015 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship, and Greg Anderson had all his ducks in a row during qualifying. After picking up the maximum points for having the quickest car through each round of qualifying, 79-time No. 1 qualifier Anderson had a clear view of the winner’s circle at Gateway Motorsports Park. However, things did not go as planned.

On the basis of a track-record setting 6.492-second pass, Anderson nabbed the pole in St. Louis. On Sunday, he was strong against first-round opponent Mark Hogan, winning with a 6.528, 212.03 to beat a 6.681, 206.92. In fact, the only car that ran faster than Anderson in the first round was his Summit Racing teammate Jason Line, who had low elapsed time of the round with a 6.526.

In the second round, Anderson’s day was nipped short as Allen Johnson clocked a .002 reaction time to his .035 and took it to a 6.558, 211.26 defeat of the KB Racing powered driver’s quicker 6.533, 211.49.

“My Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro is a very good car; the only thing missing is the reaction time. I’m not going to sugar coat it,” said Anderson, who remains No. 2 in the Pro Stock points. “I somehow lost my way, and I’m working on trying to find my way back. It’s a work in progress, and I’m going to keep working on it. We’re going to stay and test here at Gateway Motorsports Park tomorrow and work on that, and we’ll see if we can do any better. It’s very simple. We have the car, we just have to figure out why those reaction times aren’t there.

“The long-range forecast for Reading next week is for cool weather, and it should be fast. We can’t give up; we have to try to get back in the game. We have every intention in the world of doing that in Reading.”
