Giovanni Scelzi Making Outlaw Kart Debut at Kyle Larson’s Outlaw Kart Showcase

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2015) – Giovanni Scelzi is gearing up for his outlaw kart debut this Tuesday at Cycleland Speedway during Kyle Larson’s Outlaw Kart Showcase Presented by ParkerStore.

Scelzi will pilot a 500cc kart for David Robinson at the bullring, which will host more than 225 pre-entered competitors.

“I ran one around at Kyler Shaw’s house and that’s the only time I’ve driven one,” he said. “I think there’s 170 cars in the class I’m running. I’m not really sure how it’s going to go. I’d just like to make the main event, which would be an accomplishment.”

Scelzi is coming off a disappointing weekend in his micro sprint at Plaza Park Raceway during the Summer Clash.

The action began last Friday with Scelzi qualifying seventh quickest before winning a heat race from the pole position. That locked him into the fifth starting position for the main event.

“The start was pretty hectic,” he said. “Everybody got real bottled up. We got to fourth about eight laps in. There was a really big curb on the wall. I went in a little hot a couple of laps later. It was so choppy it spun us around and broke the front end.”

Scelzi, who crashed in turns three and four while running fourth on Lap 11, was unable to resume the race. He was credited with a 17th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with the team electing to change cars and engines prior to the action.

“The motor was just off,” he said. “It was disappointing when you feel like you made good laps and you’re so far off.”

Scelzi timed in 16th quickest during qualifying. He then placed sixth in a heat race to line up on the inside of the eighth row for the feature.

“We made some progress,” he said. “We’re trying stuff and running different things. I think when it all gets figured out we’ll be really good. We just have to take our lumps while we learn the lessons.”
