Giovanni Scelzi Picks Up Third Win of Season with Charge at Plaza Park

Inside Line Promotions – LEMOORE, Calif. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Giovanni Scelzi returned to Victory Lane last Friday at Plaza Park Raceway.

Scelzi maneuvered from fifth to score his third micro sprint triumph of the season and his second at the bullring in Visalia, Calif.

“We haven’t had a lot of wins this year, but we’ve been fast pretty much every race,” he said. “We tried some different things and it worked out. We’re running different shocks and I feel like we’re getting those figured out more every time we hit the race track.”

Scelzi kicked off the night by qualifying sixth quickest. He then advanced from third to second place during a heat race to lock into the 30-lap feature, which Scelzi started on the inside of the third row.

“I was running in fourth for probably half the race,” he said. “Lapped traffic fell our way. Second and third place went to the top trying to get around a lapped car and the lapped car slid up. I went under both in one corner to take over second.”

Scelzi picked up the two positions near the midpoint of the feature. Several laps later he took the lead and drove away to the decisive victory.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Lemoore Raceway, where Scelzi timed in 11th quickest during qualifying.

“The track was really, really hooked up all night,” he said. “It was a fast, rough race track. We were the last car out for qualifying so we didn’t have the best track.”

He then won a heat race before starting on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

“It was so narrow and hard to pass,” he said. “On the first start we got into sixth and a guy in front of me almost spun out. It bottled everybody up and I fell back to 10th. We got back up to sixth or seventh and I biked it in turn two, which dropped me back several positions. There wasn’t much passing after that.”
